Desdamona wrote:Prince of Tides is a GREAT story. It's full of a lot of plot twists, characters, suspense...
Also a lot of long, descriptive passages that are wonderful, but they get in the way
of the story. Kind of the way Margaret Mitchell's social commentary was in Gone With the Wind.
I guess I was just to wrapped up in the story to enjoy the poetry at the time.
Read it and let me know what you think.
Book: WONDERPHUL.
Movie: Stank like a rotten egg.
My love is staying an anchor tied to you with that silver chain.
Read the entire Carl Hiaasen catalog in one summer after reading Tourist Season because of "The Ballad of Skip Wiley." I highly reccomend every one of those books. His next, Skinny Dip, will be on sale in July.
As someone recommended before, I too would recomed the Travis McGee Series by John D. MacDonald. All of these books are great! I love mysteries and that is what these books are they are great mysteries, that take place in beautiful tropical settings. There is also a lot of great social commentary by John MacDonald in the books. His books were written in the 60's and 70's but they are not dated at all. There is one book, "The Green Ripper" that is about a terriost cell in the USA and it is very revelant to what is happening in our world today. Some of the lines in that book gave me chills as they almost foreshadow the terrible events of 9/11. Anyway, his books are extreamly fun to read. MacDonald is very descriptive and you can almost feel the tropical breeze coming in off the coast when you read these books. Travis McGee is pretty much a combination of James Bond, Jimmy Buffett and John Wane, all rolled up into one. I would reccomend "The Long Lavender Look", "The Girl With the Cinnamon Skin", "The Deep Blue Goodbye" or pretty much any other one. I have had a lot of luck finding these books on half.com for next to nothing. I have been buying them all up!
