Sanibel is expensive. There's really not any way around it. They can mitigate the cost somewhat by going when it's *really* hot down there instead of going in the winter when all the snowbirds invade and make life miserable.

Beware: Some rentals are only available for a month at a time.

They were wanting to go in September. Just found a few cottage rentals 1 block away from the beach $80/night weekly rental.

That's a great time to go. It's still hot, but it's starting to cool off at night. The kids are back in school, so the island is a little quieter, and the snowbirds haven't arrived yet. The price sounds right too.
If they've not been there before, they also need to get down to the Naples pier, Gordon Drive and Tin City. Fifth Avenue at night has some *great* dining if they like high-end dining. For a dumpy shrimp shack-type place with great food, there is Skip One on US 41, south of Sanibel. It's on the right, a little ways south of Gladiolus/Six Mile Cypress. They have an all-you-can-eat on Monday through Thursday, with fried shrimp, crab legs and flounder. The seafood is *really* fresh and the atmosphere is Old Florida shrimp shack heaven. Nothing fancy and that's the way it oughta be.

Ok, after a long intensive search, my folk have deceided to go back to Treasure Island, Fl. A lot less a strain on the budget and they love the area. So do I.
