Hi everyone,
If you remember, about a month and a half ago, I lost my best friend, Adam, in a car accident. So I started a phin power thread. Tonight I was talking to his mother, and I was telling her that I would print out that thread for her. I was trying to explain the lingo, and what phin power meant. She interupted me and asked if it meant "Fans in need". At first I just answered that fins was a song and thats where it came from. But then I started wondering...Does it mean Phans in need? Thats pretty much what phin power is for isnt it?
Regarding Phin Power....

I always just associated it with Jimmy's "Fins"; I never really thought anything about its derivation. I just assumed since we were all Buffett fans....I guess it sounds better than feather power (you know,Parrot Heads). Who came up with "Phin (Fin) Power"? I like that thought of "humans pray with their hands and sharks have fins", PHAW. PHans (Fans) In Need - BC, it sounds like Adam's Mom really understands. And for her to come up with that so fast....wow. I think the best words, sayings, etc. are the ones that have more than one meaning to them, but all associated meanings.
How is Adam's Mom doing, Burny? And how are you doing?

PHIN POWER had it's origin almost 2 years ago as
Parrot Heads In Need
While BN'ers were being supportive in the daily Cafe, if someone came in pages later or at night, they would not know of a situation where a phriend might need a kind word or a virtual hug. I remember starting a thread for Penny one day so others could be informed. I think it was then that we really put a name to what we were already doing - helping a phriend in need with kind words of care and support.
And it does reflect the "fins" theme, too. My Dad used to tell me to "keep your chin up" when he was encouraging or consoling me. Now I've adapted that and say "keep your phins up."
