Do You Sequester Yourself at the Bginning of a Tour?

Post by kurt »

I am curious to know if any of you Ph’s “sequester” yourself from any information (esp. this site) at the beginning of Jimmy’s tour. Tampa is on the 22nd and I am going to Charlotte on the 24th. I have to force myself to stay off any sites (starting Thursday) so that it does not spoil the surprise. Label me a “traditionalist” but I don’t want to know what the opening song is or the set list, or any PHan reviews until I go. 8)

I realize that it's impossible for those going later on in the tour... :(

5 days and a wake up!!! :pirate:

I guess I do to a degree. I very rarely look at set lists and things of that nature, so that when I go to the show, everything will be "new" to me. :D

Kurt: I may not 'sequester' myself...but I definitely avoid set lists until I've been to my show. You're right, it is very hard to do if you're going late in the tour, but, this year will be easy with me making the Charlotte show. I was thinking I was the only one that did this!

I will avoid the set lists but I enjoy the social area especially the day before the show and the day of the show. The excitement of my friends going is always a pleasure.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Heavens NO! I listen to every concert I can on Radio Margaritaville, and spend time with others on this board while they are playing. :P

My only concert this year will be in August. There's no way I could wait that long and not listen to the live broadcasts! :wench:

I never have before, but this is the first time I have ever been so close to the opening of a tour. I am going to Charlotte on Saturday and will really try not to look at the setlist from Tampa before then. No promises though! Hope everyone has a great time and you get to hear what you want.

i am going to try to sequester myself. I ALWAYS listen to the begining and end of the tour (and most of the middle tooo!) on Radio Margaritiville. I am going to the Charolette show with two firends (buffett virgins) and I so want to be able to say ..."hey check this next song out" or "i knew he was going to play that..." I JUST want to know for myself too! I'm like a little kid trying not to peak at presents on Christmas Eve. I was REALLY hoping for a different setlist for every show since Jimmy was starting to push the live CDs a little more. I would love to see a farwell tour (in a few years of course) in which he plays every song he has ever done 30 songs or so at a time through out the whole tour.
I guess that's another topic all together...

I'm with Big Red and Nutmeg-I want to know everything, and want to see how the setlist changes from night to night, trying to predict what those changes will be the night(s) I am there!

Won't be too hard for me... I leave for Tampa tomorrow!!!

Actually, listening to show after show can kind of spoil them for you
after a while. It makes the "patter" and "jokes" sound way too scripted
if you hear them over and over.

This is the first time I have ever caught the first show of a tour. I can't wait! I really hope the setlist for Tampa is close to the benefit show. That was a wonderful setlist. 5'Oclock Somewhere would be a great opener. I can just see it now. Mac singing the song and asking 'What would Jimmy Buffet do?' and Jimmy running out on stage. :pirate:

I try to, but never succeed . . . it's not the set lists I avoid, but the thought about actually getting to the parking lot. Concerts are just too much fun and I start going nuts about one month out. Literally nuts - ask ph4 . . .

Yes, I agree with this 100%!!
Last year was the first year that I started hanging around on BN and listening to the live RM broadcasts. I have to say that by the time Great Woods rolled around, it wasn't quite as exciting.
The problem is that this year, I don't even know when my next show is coming since Jones Beach and Fenway/GW are unsettled! And besides, I got hooked on the RM broadcasts, so it would be pretty hard not to listen for the whole summer.
