I have read all of j.b.'s books and corcorans. I want some more suggestions for books like these. With a caribbean feel.

Let's go parrotheads I need some help. Nice weather on the way and I need books to read....

Not so sure they would be "caribbean feel", more South Florida with a wit:
Carl Hiaasen (Need to start with "Tourist Season", hilarious)
Laurence Shames (Key West backdrop)

randy wayne white's are good like that too. good beach reading, try edna buchanan too

Here are a couple I can recomend:
An Embarrassment of Mangos by Ann Vanderhoof. Couple ditches their jobs and buy a boat and sail from canada to the far reaches of the Caribean. Great adventure, makes you want to do the same.
Trip to the Beach. Robert Blanchard. Couple ditches their jobs to open a restraunt in the islands. Also a good read. (mangos book better in my opinion)
Don't Stop the Carnival. Herman Wouk Obvious PH requirement
Following the Equator. Mark Twain. Also should be required reading for any PH.
Any are good for spending some hammock time with a cool beverage.

I second the motion for the Carl Hiaassen books, they are fantastic. But I would strongly recommend starting from the first book since there are a couple of reoccurring characters in his books. Same thing goes for the Randy Wayne White books.
Another author that I find hilarious is Tim Dorsey. His books are all set in Florida and are great. This though is the exception to the rule. I would really start reading his book Triggerfish Twist which is the prequel to his first two novels Florida Roadkill and Hammerhead Ranch Motel. Enjoy.

I've found Amazon.com to be helpful when I find an author or subject that I really enjoy. They have a section "people who bought this book also suggest this" or something similar. I've found some really good stuff that way.

Just returned home from a week in FL. Have a bad case of missing Key West. Got to thinking BN has a travel log for the Keys and great music resources, and maybe I'm wrong, but after searching for "key west books," this is the thread that comes up. Please share all your book reviews about Key West and the keys here. History, novels, travel logs... all of it. PLEASE

Old Man & the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. GREAT book.

And of course, there's my very favorite author, our very own lovely & gracious Lisa Mottola-
Hudson, who has written two DYNAMITE books, both of which have been recommended by Nadirah Shakoor, and even read by the Head Parrot himself (yes, THE head parrot). They are
"Watch Your Step At the Wishing Well" and the sequel, "Just Another (Sh*tty) Day In Paradise."
(Main character is Garry LaForge-gotta LOVE a guy named Garry who spells his name with two R's).
Fantastic books, both of them. And the author is a really wonderful person.

They're a bit dated, but you could try the Travis McGee series...

Hate to admit this because I'm a HUGE Mark Twain fan, but I had a hard time getting into Following the Equator.

Ever buy a book because it's there? I was in a book store about a year ago and bought, "Don't Stop The Carnival," and never read it. Seems like it's time. Also found a copy of Conroy's, "The Water is Wide," when our local Border's went BK. I've got some reading to do
