Is Master And Commander good
I love movies set at sea, but have heard mixed reviews. Anyone here seen it? What do you think. Buy it, rent it, blow it off?
Look I'm a little slow today, I just switched to Sanka, so have a heart.

I saw it. I loved it. I just bought it. I also love movies at sea, especially if the boats are the old sailing ships.
The trailers to Troy have some great sea shots with sailing ships . . . and, they are in a harbour!!!

I'm a girl (at least last time I looked) and I loved it - I've read a lot of books on sailing ships - particularly by Captain Villiers - and this film was very well researched - the ocean effects were fantastic - great movie about male friendship as well and the ocnflicts between friendship, authority and responsibility.

Finally came in. Thought the film was excellent. Was extremely impressed with the DTS audio track on the DVD. I would rank this up there in the top 3 for audio quality and effects in my DVD collection.

After making myself watch through some difficult parts, I ended up loving it. I especially liked the story of the relationships. The Galapagos part was cool too.
Wonderful special effects and story.
The music is excellent. Russell Crowe is actually shown playing violin. Made me wonder how he is in 30 Odd Foot of Grunts. They actually made a live CD in Texas at Stubb's BBQ.

Haven't seen it, but Mr D was disappointed. He's a sailing fanatic, but says
the Hornblower miniseries/shows had a better "feel". He does agree that
everyone who lives on a boat should have a copy on board, though.
There's a long list of movies like that, including Perfect Storm and his
very favorite, Captain Ron.

I missed it when it came through town. Now it sounds like I need to make the effort to rent it.Desdamona wrote:Haven't seen it, but Mr D was disappointed. He's a sailing fanatic, but says

("Captain Ron" is a theatrical MASTERPIECE, by the way!)
