I'm still waiting for somebody to post "Joe's Bar N' Grill, Normal Il." I ran a saloon from 1979-82ish. I had every Buffett song you could think of or that I could find, in my juke box companies mountain of returned 45's.
Come Monday
WDWGDAS
Changes in Lat.
Fins
Volcano
Son of A Son
Survive
Dreamsicle
Margaitaville
and some others I can't remember anymore
We were across the street from Illinois State University and we were a sports bar, before that name was coined and had a great juke box. No DISCO was allowed, we had Waylon, Wille,Charlie Daniels, Beach Boys, Beatles, Doobies, oldies like Buddy Holly and of course, Tom T. Halls "I Like Beer"

The year was 1974. I was a concert and record reviewer for my college newspaper. Back then I was heavily into CSN&Y, who I saw on tour that year, as well as pre-"Born to Run" Springsteen ("The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" days). I remember hearing "Come Monday" and thought at the time it was pleasant enough but didn't give it much attention. I only remember hearing it because I recall the assistant dean of students at the time saying he knew the singer, Jimmy Buffett, because he had gone to school with him in Mississippi (or was it Alabama?)....

Cheeseburger... I was partying at Worcester State when everyone broke out singing, "I like mine with lettuce and tomato..." at the time I hated the song (b/c they kept playing it over and over again..) but it grew on me and a few days later I found myself singing the song on my way to class...

The first Buffett song I heard was "It's My Job". A friend put it on a compilation tape for me. I sought out the "Coconut Telegraph" album and was hooked every since! Even though that's not one of Jimmy's best songs, it will always have a special place in my heart! I just remember being absolutely blown away by CT....loved every song and then just couldn't get enough!
That's never changed! I get ready for work every morning listening to Buffett....sort of sets the tone for the day.

Hi CabinFever. And what song(s) would that be??? Surely not "Math Sux"?

The first JB song I ever heard was Cheeseburger, but I didn't realize who was singing it at the time. I was in middle school and was at summer church camp and they played it at the farewell party we had at the end of the week. I also remember thinking it was funny to write a song about a cheeseburger.
Several years later in high school, I heard Margaritaville during our Homecoming celebration. I knew who was singing it that time. I wanted to hear more, so a friend let me borrow her copy of SYKBH and from there I was hooked.

Well besides "Come Monday" (does it count that I didn't know it who did it) , I was rooming in the mid-70's with a guy from Texas, who kept playing WSCAAPC. Not liking country AT ALL, I kind of ignored it. Then I started to understand the spirit of the songs. Well then he got CIL,CIA and then Margaretville hit the radio......and I was hooked.

as a kid i remember when come monday came out, and of course m'ville. the one that started all this was soasoas. i was stationed in yorktown virginia and was slurping a few dozen with some extremely cold beer at a great bar called strangely enough- the yorktown pub-right on the yorktown river. the band that night played some great music but two songs stood out to me, one was sandman by america and the other soasoas. i didn't know buffet say it until i asked someone in the band during a break. that was it... the first taste is free, the next one will cost you.

Margaritaville. I was almost 16 and our neighbors were having a pool party and they were playing a Buffett tape. I got stuck singing that blasted Margaritaville song, asked around to find out who sang it, purchased SYKBH on cassette the next day and the rest is history.

I can't remember one song in particular. I just remember that when I met my husband, about 15 years ago, I had no idea who Jimmy Buffett was! My husband and his siblings are all Parrotheads so I had no choice but to join them! How wonderful it's been!

My Aunt Sally introduced me to Jimmy... although at the time I was 4 and obsessed with Raffi. But her favorite songs were Cheeseburger and CILCIA. My favorite soon became Come Monday!

Sounds like me! Except I wasn't quite that young... I was 24 in '74!

I think a more interesting question would be: What was the second Buffett song that you remember?
For me, that would be "If the phone dosen't ring, It's me". I'm sure I heard "Come Monday" before that one, but I don't remember it. I remember a local country station playing ITPDRIM all the time. Besides Margaritaville, that's the one that stands out in my mind.

I have always loved Margaritaville...but I didn't know who sang it.....Then I was at a store who was having a 99 cent close-out on 8-Track tapes...I picked up You Had To Be There......and on the back was the song "Margaritaville".....so for 99 cents how could you go wrong
......Many years and thousands of dollars later....

My first songs were Come Monday and Margaritaville. My dad used to always listen to what we considered the "oldies" station and they would play them frequently, but my "obsession" if you call it that came just after high school, when I went to my first concert, Domino College Tour. Can't really remember the music though.
