so don't put so much into any bands' drug addiction as your reason for getting high. You get high because you want to which - depending on your drug of choice could lead to a major addiction problem down the road. Don't glorify drug addiction - it's a path you really don't want to walk down.

ashaway1 wrote:pair8head if you knew anything about music you would understand wher ei am coming from, if you read direct interviews from some of these artists they say used drugs to help them right music, the beatles used acid to write strawberry fields, listen to the lyircs of some of these songs its all about drugs, and sometimes its not even good things about drugs like claptons cocaine all i am saying that for better or worse because of drugs we have many of the great albums we do today, dont be so naive to think that if all rock stars were clean and sober that we would have half the good music we do today

Ok I am going to try to answer this without blowing my cork.

The interviews you refer to were most likely given by the artist in order to SELL thier music, Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll isn't just a saying young man it is an advertisement, The artist all knew what they were doing when they gave these types of interviews, They were just as likely to say they wrote in the nude or while having sex because that helped them set their minds free. What it really did was help them make more freaking money then you or I will ever see.

If you want to believe otherwise go ahead, but do not tell me I am nieve or assume I know less about music then you. At almost 50 years of age I think I have learned a bit about music and artist.

Ashaway1, dear, you seem to really want to participate in the exchange of
ideas on this board. Could I suggest not trying so hard to stir up animosity?
There are plenty of ways to express opposing opinions besides being so
confrontational. Besides, your lack of punctuation and spelling makes it
more difficult for us to read your "tone" since we're having to try so hard to
figure out just what you're saying in the first place. We've had many
negative exchanges in various threads that started because it's difficult to
know just where someone is "coming from" just by reading words on a
screen. If you'll try a little harder to express yourself, we'll be more open
to hearing your ideas.
Just my humble (and peaceful) opinion... 8)

pair8head i agree with you that a lot goes into the selling of a record and that the artists image goes a long way in helping to sell those records and i also agree that maybe they try to exagerrate to give off an appearance of being "bad' but i also feel that if you look at the lyrics themselves and see the meanings of some of these songs you would see the influence of drugs in their music

Well I don't know if you meant it to be but I found this rather insulting.

and what was your opinion of some of the meanings of some of the songs you mentioned such as Brown Sugar??? Obviously Cocaine is pretty self explanatory.

If you look at the lyrics of some of the songs from my mothers big band and old Dean Martin country albums you would see the same damn thing.

brown sugar is a reference to cheap mexican heroin that keith richards was addicted to at the time, another stones song jumpin jack flash, jumpin jacks were pills that the band often used

but you have no facts to back up some of your opinions. Like telling a parent taking their child to a Buffett concert is irresponsible when a.) compared to quite a few of us you are still a child b.) you have no experience in raising children c.) from your comments you led a particularily sheltered life and now that you've broken free it appears as if you have gone a little "wild". I would rather my son attend concerts with me and learn how to handle himself and have a good time without getting stoned now then have to figure out how to do it later.

You say you are not disrespectful however this is disrespectful considering a.) I am a woman and b.) old enough to be your mother and for a degreed professional you really couldn't tell it from your posts.

Two degrees, no drugs, two grown kids...
Howcome this "accountant" is so sloppy with his communication skills?

BTW, the "go with your kids while they learn" is a wonderful way to let
them do things they wouldn't be allowed to experience otherwise. That's
exactly what I did, and I got to experience a lot of fun things that way too.
What other explanation is there for me being a TMBG fan???
And my boys insisted that they didn't mind my being there as long as they
got to go. Now they invite me to go. (Eric Clapton 4th row in June is next!)
