Boycotts
Does anyone out there boycott certain stores or chains? I was wondering if it's just me.
I stay away from the local Walmart because they never have enough cashiers. And after being tailgated and cut off yesterday by a guy in a Pasta House SUV and getting the run around from their corporate office today while trying to lodge a complaing, I'm done eating there.

Hey, I'm not saying I'm trying to break their back. But why should I spend my money there?tommcat327 wrote:THAT'LL TEACH 'EMIlph wrote:Does anyone out there boycott certain stores or chains? I was wondering if it's just me.

Sorta--(and this is long)
I won't use the self-check-out lane at the grocery store. Every time I do it takes about 10 times longer than if I just would have gone thru the regular line--which is a huge PIA when I'm hauling around a newborn in a carseat and trying to dig out a penny for my 6yr old to get a ride on the mechanical horse. I've made the people at the check out open a regular lane for me because I won't do the self check out.
There's also two of the same-chain grocery stores near where I live and I will only go to one of them because the people there are stooooopid. I was in a check out line and there were 2 gang-banger teenagers in front of me buying every package and variety of Sudafed in the store...about 15 packages. I told the cashier that she shouldn't sell that to them because they were buying it to get high and why in the world would 2 teenagers need 15 packages of Sudafed. She just looked at me like I was retarded and sold it to them. A few weeks later when I was back at that store, there was a sign where the Sudafed belongs that says that it's now only available by asking the pharmacist!
And, in general I hate going to WalMart just based on the fact that they force the little man out of business and the one near my house has a really crappy parking lot.

I don't buy Exxon since the Valdez spill in the eighties. They have still not paid up their fines on that, yet they had enough money to buy Mobil
I saw a bit on this recently where a guy went to the spill area and turned over some rocks - it was like asphalt. The rocks were stuck together and the underside was tarry.
A spokesman for Exxon had the nerve to say the area was cleaner than before the spill

THATS DIFFERENT.THAT IS SIMPLY REFUSING TO GO SOMEPLACE THAT HAS POOR SERVICE.NOT REFUSING TO EAT AT A CHAIN BECAUSE OF POLITICS OR SOMETHING LIKE THATcitcat wrote:Well, my mother boycotts KMart. I forget why.I boycott the local McDonald's...they NEVER got my order right. NEVER!

I boycott Lowe's--always use Home Depot now for any sort of home-related stuff. Here's why (long story):
We bought a dryer from Lowe's and paid $40 to have it delivered and installed. Well, when they brought it, they discovered the hole in our floor wasn't big enough for the duct they had to put in. So rather than offering to help correct the problem or give us any advice, they simply said, "We can't install this" and left. So my husband and I had to widen the hole (which I expected we'd have to do ourselves) and install the dryer ourselves. It wasn't *that* hard, but I felt that since I paid for delivery AND installation, that i should be able to get half of my $40 back, since no installation took place. So we went to the store and talked to a manager about getting $20 back, and he was a real jerk about it and wouldn't give us our $$. We weren't beligerent with him or rude or anything--we just explained the situation and why we wanted $20. His reply was, "Well, the $40 is for delivery. You were misinformed when they said it was for installation, too." So we now boycott Lowe's. I'll go there if I absolutely have to (i.e., Home Depot doesn't have what I need) but I refuse to buy a major appliance there ever again.
