Sounds like my wedding in 2001, we got married in between two VT home games. The day we got married oct 6 Tech was playing WVU at noon or 1. Our wedding was at 2 and during the reception downstairs we had the game on the radio for a few minutes just to check the score. My wife wanted to get married in Oct and the 6th was the only date that Tech was on the road lol.
Hey tailgate what do you think about the Hokies new uniforms they are fugly if you ask me

Well, for me it is worse to watch USC win. My favorite teams are Clemson and whoever is playing the Gamecocks. Besides, did you expect anything else? Has Carolina EVER beaten the Gators? (I'm sure they have at some point, but not in recent history.)

We were married on July 15--I think it was about 95 degrees that day. But our church is air conditioned, so it was not a big deal, though my husband's family, who are mostly from NY state, complained all weekend about the heat. But it was all worth it to avoid getting married in football season. I've had to miss two Clemson games in recent years becase of weddings, and I was NOT a happy camper.....(at one of the weddings, we had the game playing on the radio during the reception...luckily, the bride was a CU grad, and didn't mind.)

you skipped football for a wedding lol, at least you could listen to the game

My wife's uncle got married the weekend of the Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt game, no Vandy jokes please

but we skipped the wedding and went to the game anyway.
Sure we left in the 3rd quarter with the Vols up 48-0, but when you live 4 hours from Knoxville and someone offers you two lower level tickets and parking for 30.00 you don't pass it up even for a wedding. If this was a funeral I would have sold my tickets in a heartbeat no questions asked.

Well, the game I missed was against The Citadel--not exactly an exciting matchup--and it was a dear friend who was getting married, so we decided to go. If it was any other team that Clemson was playing.....I don't know if we would have gone. The other wedding I had to go to was my cousin's, and I was in the wedding, so to keep peace in the family, I went. Also, Clemson was playing Furman that day, so again, it was not a huge game. My dad had to miss the game and go to the wedding, too, and boy was he ticked. He hadn't missed a Clemson home game in 20+ years.....something he continually reminded my cousin of throughout the weekend....

Hard to believe that there are others that scheduled weddings around the football schedule

We held our wedding on the only open date in FSU's schedule way back in 1987. We knew if we wanted any family to attend we couldn't have a game conflict.
My little brother (the blacksheep that attended WCU) held his wedding on the day of the FSU/ND game in orlando. His priest baled out on him one week before the big day because he suddenly got tickets from another priest

We had alittle TV in the groomsmans room and delayed the start of the wedding until 1/2 time.

no wonder why the divorce rate is so high in the country now, getting married the weeks of huge college football cames is to blame
As far as I know of nobody in my family as of now is getting married this year, I forgot my 10 year class reunion was going to be in october and i am on the planning committee, oh well if the vols or the hokies have a huge game that weekend, add skipping a 10 year reunion to the list along with weddings.

Are yall going to cook the turkeys in the buring sofas this year

sorry couldn't resist that one lol. I found it funny as hell that after you demolished the Hokies the Neers fans decided to burn almost every piece of furniture in town.
I had some friends at that VT game last year and he told me the WVU faithful threw so many jack daniels mini bottles at them he could have opened his own bar
I will say this the Neers fans talk junk but compared to the Marshall fans I dealt with see previous other 4 pages Jelly Bean yall are pretty tame. At least we both agree that we cannot stand the Chokies

good luck this season

I am not married, but would not get married in the fall (unless I decide on a Sunday or Friday Night) because of football.
The PAC-10 has whacked conference schedules. Arizona State played three years in a row up in Eugene, not here in Tempe. And last year, they finally came to the Valley of the Sun... but OH NOOOO. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding in Portland, Maine. Needless to say many of the the people who choose to live in Portland are self-proclaimed anti-sports fans. Well, they aren't into College Football anyway.
All my friends flew down and stayed at my place while I was in Maine. I guess it was kind of a good thing in the long run. The Ducks got thier rear ends burned by the lowly Sundevils that weekend. One of only two PAC-10 wins.
I need to remember to thank the Bride afterall.

I have noticed that as well, living here in Roanoke, the large northern population we have here are split on college football some love it and others could give a crap less about it. On the flip side i don't know many fellow southerners that hate football of anykind, heck on some friday nights a good high school game around here will draw 7500 to 10,000 people. I follow the pac-10 a little, Virginia Tech found out first hand when Cal beat the hell out of them last year in the insight bowl but since your an oregon fan hiking please tell someone in eugene to get rid of those god awful highlight marker uniforms, during the mississippi state game last year I thought my picture tube in my tv was going bad

Does anyone listen to Colin Cowheard on ESPN radio in the mornings? He talks football 365 days a year. Usually College, with some NFL in there too.
I am addicted. (And not just because he used to cover the Ducks...)

I do because I usually go to lunch anywhere from noon to 1 and I have it on ESPN to wait for Dan Patrick and Dibbs to come on. Cowheard at first annoyed me but I am getting used to him and it is a pretty decent show.

Thanks for the bump Alan...
OK, here's a question. What does this group think of the Penn State/Joe Paterno "extension" even though he has had a few losing seasons??
I think tradition is one thing, but if a coach can't win, he should go. That said, I also see the that by keeping him there that could help them with recruiting. Hmmm.
What do you think?

I would have given him one year contracts and evaluate him after each season to see if his coaching skills/ability have diminished any. Attendance hasn't been affected any and the bottom line now in college athletics is $$$$$, if Penn State was only drawing 50,000 a game instead of 105,000 or whatever it held he would have been gone a long time ago.
Look at Nebraska their coach went 9-3 or 9-4 went to a good bowl game and his present was a boot out the door.

Anyone die hard NOTRE DAME followers like myself. I have grown up watching the Irish my whole life even though I live in Wi. Don't get me wrong I still like the Badgers but I just love the Irish. I understand that you either love ND or hate them with a passion. Come next season the Irish will be a force, hopefully.

I think a year to year contract deal would have been better for Penn St. If and when his contract is up he will be 82. I say if because I hope for PSU that he remains in good health and able to coach football. I also look at it that Ohio State is more than likely to beat PSU the next five years, anytime the Buckeyes win I am a happy girl. I respect Paterno, but I don't know that he has it in him.
I don't think that attendence will have anything to do with it. It's PSU, the folks in Happy Valley won't have much else to do if they do not go to the games, not to mention, its Big Ten, the worst teams in the league sell out games.

I don't love or hate ND, but I do hope they do better. I think Willingham is a great coach and I thought he would do better than he has done at ND.

Cut Joe Pa some slack! He's the reason anyone in the country knows about Penn State football. You don't run a man like that out of town. As A-11 mentioned, they're not hurting on the bottom line attendence wise so give him this last run.
Prediction.....he'll make at least one more run at the Big Ten title!!
Having said that......
GO BLUE !!

Although attendance wasn't an issue there, either--Nebraska has sold out every home game since 1962. Solich was forced out mainly because recruiting had really fallen off on his watch. Under him, that 9-3 record was about as good as it was ever going to get. They were never going to be able to compete on a consistent basis with Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas State.
There was a columnist for Sports Illustrated that I think put it best. He said, for 95% of schools out there, a 9-3 record would mean a raise and a contract extension for the coach. But there are another 5% of schools which, because of their histories, have earned the right to expect more than that (he included schools like Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska, etc.) in that list. Feel free to agree or disagree, but I thought it summed up the argument pretty well for those who thought Solich needed to go. (Although opinion on that is still pretty split--my sister and I only recently started speaking to each other again.

)
As far as the JoePa issue, I agree that you can't just say "you're fired" to someone with his kind of resume and history as a head coach. But at the same time, why four more years? That is a looooooong time in football years.
