OK, here's a question. What does this group think of the Penn State/Joe Paterno "extension" even though he has had a few losing seasons??

I think tradition is one thing, but if a coach can't win, he should go. That said, I also see the that by keeping him there that could help them with recruiting. Hmmm.

What do you think?
I think a year to year contract deal would have been better for Penn St. If and when his contract is up he will be 82. I say if because I hope for PSU that he remains in good health and able to coach football. I also look at it that Ohio State is more than likely to beat PSU the next five years, anytime the Buckeyes win I am a happy girl. I respect Paterno, but I don't know that he has it in him.

I don't think that attendence will have anything to do with it. It's PSU, the folks in Happy Valley won't have much else to do if they do not go to the games, not to mention, its Big Ten, the worst teams in the league sell out games.
I think firing Paterno would be a PR disaster for Penn State. Talking about Fins!! Media outlets (ESPN) who are scratching there heads at the extension would then start to question why they fired a legend. PSU has to let Paterno retire, And Paterno needs to figure out for himself that it time to go. Same could possibly be said for Bobby Bowden.

From all I've been reading and hearing on my daily fix of ESPN radio... I think you are right on. It sounds like they gave him the extension now he gets to decide when he "honorably discharges himself."

For all the history and hype he has always had, I still don't think PSU should be in the Big Ten. Maybe I am still upset that they killed/massacered/slaughtered us in the Rose Bowl their first qualifying year.

As for the Notre Dame question -- I am not a fan. Get them off my TV. LOVE the coach, don't like the program. Over-exposed. Anyone agee? Disagree?

Let me clarify, I NEVER said they should fire Coach Paterno. He's a good coach. However, as he is getting older, he will be 82 at the end of the contract, and he has had a great coaching career. I can understand letting him decide when he wants to retire. Hopefully he does make a run for the Big Ten title over the next few years, but I don't know if he has it in him.

Let's go Bucks!

I think Notre Dame has earned the right to get all the attention that they get. They have the greatest football program of all time, given that that past few years have not been so good, but they have the most national championships and hiesman trophy winners. So in my opinion I do think they should be on TV and they should not join a conference. The only team that it is hurting is themselves because now they don't earn a automatic birth to a BCS bowl game b/c they can not win a conference. I'm sure someday they will be in a conference but why would they want too, they are making so much more money being independent. As for the coach, he better get some recruits in there otherwise the alums are gonna get on the AD's case at the end of the season. I did think he would have done a lot more with the team they had last year but he didn't. The only way is up from here with a young team. GO IRISH.... :D

I agree with hiking, I cannot stand the Irish either but they are one of those schools you either love or hate like the yankees and the red sox. I don't think they deserve to get special perks because they are not in a conference but more power to them for being able to do it. If the Vols were in the same situation I wouldn't complain one bit about it.

Nov 6, Neyland Stadium, marked on my calendar with a huge orange marker. Knock on wood I will be there if not I will be there in spirit and all orange. Go VOLS!

Yes, I agree about Booby Bowden. Now that we have his "brains", Coach Mark Richt, he should retire. Perhaps he will now that the ACC will finally have some competion with the addition of VA Tech and Miami, and FSU won't be at the top any longer. Now the ACC can beat up on each other like the SEC does every weekend.

I got some glimmer of hope for you, tickets aren't that hard to come by on game day. Depending on who the Vols play is how much you can pay. At the Vanderbilt game I went to in Nov. scalpers were offering me tickets for 5 bucks each just to get rid of them. My UT ticket buddy said face this year was going to be 40 up from 38 last year. If your friend cannot get you tickets you have a general idea of what they are running.

I got a couple of websites at home that have ticket exchange boards for the VOLS, RGTOPDZ if you want them PM me and I will be more than happy to send them to you. Good luck with your ticket search and hope to see you in Knoxville

Hey, Gang -

Sorry I've been AWOL - Work has been getting in the way of my personal life again - I hate when that happens.

JO PA - I try to make it to Happy Valley each fall for at least one game. Last year it was BC. I am still amazed at Paterno's youth on the sideline. He sprints (and I don't mean jogs - I mean SPRINTS) onto the field. A friend of mine officiated the BC game - Head Linesman and was on Paterno's side of the field. After the game, Paterno sprinted over to him and grabbed his arm - Now - as you might remember from the previous year, this got Jo Pa into a bit of trouble after the Iowa game by grabbing an official in dismay about the officiating. My friend had one of those "uh-oh" moments until Jo Pa smiled and said, "You did a good job." My point is simply this - I don't think he's ready to be done yet. My brother lives in State College and word around town is that Paterno has listened too much to his assistants who have gotten him to stray from what he's wanted to do. Seems he may have let out too much line. HOWEVER - the one complaint is that he still doesn't like to play underclassmen even if they're better than upperclassmen. It will be fun to see what happens.

IRISH - There's one in every crowd. I don't care if they're in a conference or not - Just get 'em off TV when they're lousy and they pre-empt better games. I enjoyed my trip to Ann Arbor last year and getting to watch the Irish get pasted. T - shirts were clever on both sides. "Rudy su**s, Irish swallow" and "Ann Arbor is a wh*re". Good stuff

VT Uni's - Haven't seen them yet - need to go on line. Will get to see them stripped off when the equipment manager does his portion of the camp at Beamer's Ladies Clinic on July 17. Last year it was KJ and D. Hall. Nice Under Armour!!

Good to be back - Just 98 days until kick-off at Fed Ex Field.....

They need to make up their minds and be in a conference just like every other team....and stop stealing bowl games away from other conferences...If they are in the BIG EAST or whatever and they earn the bowl, then great...but Im tired of them getting the bowl just because they are IRISH. They used to be great, but their are lots of more dominent powerhouses...and I would no longer consider Notre Dame one of them.

Welcome back tailgate I have been swarmed at work too this week. I will try to get you a pic of the new hokie uniforms sometime tonight. I am going to Smith Mountain Lake tomorrow to relax for the day. It pays to have family with a place right on the lake shore :D I will have to look into that Beamer Ladies Clinic for my wife to see if she would like that.

I think as of now we are going to skip the USC game and go to the home opener but we haven't finalized it yet. Either way 98 days is way too long right now for kickoff! lol

Hi Everyone!

It's hard to keep this active in late May huh?

So here's the latest question -- what does everyone think of the Clarett decision???

Me? I am happy to see that he isn't allowed to go pro. I love the institution of college football so much and feel that if the kids could jump to the pros in only one or two years that wouldn't be good for the NCAA or the kids. The NFL is too physical for younger people -- IMHO.

What do you think? Also, what about Williams at USC? Since he hired an agent, should he be allowed back in the Pac 10??

ND ought to be kicked out of the NCAA...

clarett shouldn't be allowed in the NFL

williams made his bed and now he should have to sleep in it..... it wasn't like the rules were not crystal clear....

The Williams kid at USC shouldn't be allowed back he basically told the Trojans up yours, left school, and hired an agent. Now hes running back saying he wants to come back to the Trojans for another year. If that was Joe Schmoo 5th string quarterback this wouldn't even be a discussion see ya don't let the door hit you on the rear on the way out.

Clarett in my opinion is a punk thug. Always wanting to get his way or raising hell about it if he dosen't. The NCAA and the NFL have certain rules about when a player comes out and when they are eligible for the draft if those two have a problem with it and neither league will change, shut the hell up and play in canada until you are deemed eligible for the draft.

I am sick and tired of these college athletes thinking they can do whatever the hell they want to do because they can run the 40 in 4.2, sorry had a bad day at work and i have been wanting to post my opinion on this for a while

Knoxville here I come Sept 18 8pm. kicking gator arse on the way :D What a great day this turned out to be, talked to my tennessee ticket buddy at work and since the Florida game is at 8pm on Sept 18 he cannot go so the tickets are mine. Lower level second row tickets and 109,000 people singing rocky top as we beat the hell out of the Gators. Who cares if it is hailing outside right now lol

I agree, but it seems that the two of us are the only ones who want to talk NCAA football in June!

Won't the others be jealous when they start thinking about it in August?

OK, so what are your thoughts on those Irish going to BYU and moving 7 other schools schedules? Just like I said before, they get what they want too often.

North vs South

FOOTBALL SEASON - NORTH VS SOUTH

I love SEC football.....but based on your comparisons I'm guessing you haven't been to Michigan (110,000 +) ND, OSU, Wisconsin or Penn State (also 100,000 +)......make a road trip to one of these places on Gamed Day...worth the ride
