Wino,
I've seen Charlei Daniels several times - as recently as last week. If you get the chance, go. IMO, his shows have suffered a bit since he was "reborn", but he still puts on a hell of a performance.
I already listed my top 5, but honorable mention would go to, in no particular order:
Jackson Browne
Dr. John
BB King
Lyle Lovett
Delbert McClinton
Van Morrison
Neville Brothers
Bonnie Raitt
Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes
The Who

I almost completely agree. with the minor exception that his shows have suffered a bit since he was reborn.
Just after giving himself to the Lord he played in the Seattle Center Arena during Bumbershoot. I saw that show and it was brilliant. he had the place rockin like I had never witnessed before. The crowd was in a frenzy that had they stopped the concert right there and made everyone leave the building there would have been a riot. Instead every light in the place went out and about 2 seconds later one lone spot hit CD on stage where he started singing Amazing Grace and before he finished the second word you could have heard a pin drop in that place. After Grace was over he performed two more gospel songs each one a little more lively then the last. When the lights came on and they opened the doors the crowd left the building like they were just leaving church.
It was the most awsome spectical I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Talk about complete control of your audience.

I guess I was referring more to the lyrical changes he has made in some of his best songs. It just kinda left me feeling empty when he played "devil" as encore and sung "I told you once you son of a gun...". Long-haired Country Boy just isn't the same now either. Oh well, like I said, still a great show - I'm just very happy I also had several opportunities to see him pre-conversion.
