Personally i think its one of his best albums.it has such a great upbeat feel throughout it and the at the time "new coral reefer band" really showed there stuff. Its a 10 all the way through!

I love this album. My dad said he remembers reading negative reviews on this album around the time of it's release date that stated it was over produced. Yeah, its got the over produced sound to it, but why does that have to be a bad thing? I like that sound. Carnival World, Pascoulga Run and Changing Channels are the highlights IMO, and I'm really glad I got to hear all three preformed live at my first JB concert in Tampa. :D

And the CD issue actually does it justice, as it contains a custom tray liner and full color booklet, something the 73-85 CDs unfortuanitly don't have.

For an album that supposedly gets bashed a lot, I don't think I've seen it receive any in this thread (at least not yet ). I like it quite a bit myself. I will also always remember it as one of the first CDs I ever purchased. That wasn't by choice, believe me. Our local record store eventually phased out vinyl, leaving you no alternative but to buy CDs.

The one song that didn't get me right away was "I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever" and then I had an experience in Costa Rica a few years back that made me appreciate it more. We went to lunch one day at this restaurant (the Glass House in Cahuita) that pretty much could of been someone's home as far as the kitchen set up was concerned. Well, when we placed our order for a lobster lunch, we saw this guy go out the back with full scuba gear on and wielding an harpoon. Now, that's what I call fresh seafood! That lunch may of taken three hours but it was a damn enjoyable one. :D[/i]

On the way to Charlotte, our van read : Off to see the Lizard, so count us as fans.

Funny I should just see this thread. I've been listening to it all day at work and I think it's just terrific. I've overlooked it in the past..

It's one of those albums that I didn't like so much at first, but as time has gone on, I've enjoyed it more and more. It's a very "fun" album, you know?

wow! I am surprised by all the favorable response. I think this album sometimes gets an undeserved bad wrap. I am glad to see I am not alone!

I guess I'll be the first to tell the truth  ....

Compared to all of Jimmy's records..."Off To See The Lizard" along with "Beach House on the Moon" and "Hot Water"....must rank as the bottom 3.

These are not absolutely terrible albums....It's just that Jimmy has made so many that are so much better....I still like them in their own way.

OTSTL: Way too overproduced...and very 80's...doesn't hold up to well. If Jimmy went back into the studio today with the current Coral Reefers and re-recorded it....it would be so much better. For me, it's not so much the songs...it's just the way they sound...I hope this makes sense.

Probably my fourth favorite album behind Floridays, A1A, and Barometer Soup. I`ll have to agree though, way overproduced

I like it! Falls in line behind Floridays & Barometer Soup. As far as individual songs, I LOVE Off To See The Lizard!!! It's fun! Plus, I have the CS Lizard tattooed on my ankle, and for the few years I was stuck in corporate america with no fun screen savers, my scrolling marquee was 'Off to See the Lizard!' with the brightest, most obnoxious color combinations I could get! I had to have fun somehow, even if it was minor! :D

It's not overproduced. It's just differently produced for him. It is one of my favorite albums also.

I never agreed with the "bashing" that this CD gets. I have alway enjoyed it and it is on as much as any other. I see "I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever" as another Buffett escaspism song. I like the rythm of the song and would love to be able to "live" the song some sunny afternoon in an outdoor restaurant.

The so-called "overproduction" is because Elliot Scheiner produced it.He's the same guy behind Steely Dan's best work which is also considered to be to "overproduced".i for one think its brilliant work!!!
