Your cluelessness astounds me. ...Thankfully IP blocking is pretty easy too. Let's hope he uses his discretion.[/quote]
Obviously...YOU haven't a clue!! "IP Blocking" only works if the IP you're trying to BLOCK doesn't go thru an 'anonomyzer' site or "spoof' the IP address!! There is NO way to really block someone who wants to use a bulletin board!
Now...you should analyze WHY you want to block someone because you don't like what they say!! Don't go threatening to "block' them just because you dont' agree with what they say!!

Now he IS, MAKIN MUSIC FOR MONEYicarus wrote:Wow, this has become one crazy discussion. A few people have said it best regarding Jimmy Buffett being a performer first and foremost. I'm sorry to bring the bad news but, regardless of people thinking he is doing this for the fans, that is most likely not the case. When ever I hear the song Overkill I can't help but laugh, because he and his employee's are exactly what that song is gripping about. Every year since I've seen him, the big lighted Corona signs have bee a staple of his stage. More and more near the venue entrance there seems to be advertising for stuff. This is not by accident. Everything happens for the sole purpose of making money and Jimmy knows it. If this weren't the case, he'd be playing free shows. No, I don't mean in one of his own restaurants or on the Today show (album promotion).
Why do you think he only hits the area's with the huge number of fans? He's hoping for the sell out every time. And no, there's nothing wrong with this, I would probably do the same thing. I read somewhere that Jimmy is the "fan's musician" This couldn't be furthest from the truth. If he were such a person, he would be playing the small venues in obsure locations, to pacify the small groups of fans, even if it meant only filling half of a 6,000 seat theater.
With all of this said, I don't have a problem with any of it. This is what he does for a living and he happens to have great advice regarding how to sell himself outside of his music, etc. and he's making a crap load of money doing it. It's my choice to continue to support Jimmy Buffet and I do so, because I enjoy him. It is my choice to not be happy with the Fenway deal, but I will try to get tickets and enjoy the show if I can because I enjoy him. The party will happen, I'm not worried about that aspect. It may not be as great as GW, but it will happen somwhere.
What still angers me is ticket policies and we all know this will never change.
I guess all I'm saying is, I'm glad we have these forums so everyone can express thier feelings. Reading all of the posts on this issue has been intersting to say the least.

No matter what it will be a good time and I am looking forward to it maybe not as much as G.W. I do feel bad for the first timers that go to Fenway, they will not be completely amazed by the controled pandemonium which goes on in the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon at Great Woods. That is an experince that I will never forget and I love to see the reaction of the first timers when they get their First Look.

Sorry, dude. I did see that you already mentioned that and I should have mentioned you.MarvinGardensGhost wrote:WELL said, icarus!!! I quoted "Overkill" in the beginning of this thread!! Amazing how his management company has turned into the same kind of people HE hated so much earlier in HIS career!!
Ironic, aint it?
Like I said even knowing how the whole thing works, and how greedy all who are involved can be, I don't mind because there's nothing I can do. In the end, there's nothing I can do about it. If it bothered me to a point of obsession, I wouldn't be here as it would do nothing but drag everyone down to b**** about it.
I know what I'm getting into, if I get to this show, and I will accept this fate.
Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.

No need to anaylize - BBSs aren't democracys, they're dictatorships. But this is Jim's site, not mine. As such, I show him the respect he deserves.
And I'm well-versed in how IPs work, but thanks for the attempt at a lesson.

Like it or not, money is the name of the game. Buffett has become a powerful brand and parrotheads (in general) have large disposable incomes and will put their money where their heads and hearts are. I don't find fault in the fact that Jimmy happens to make millions for making us so happy. Would you rather that money go to some promoter? I'm perfectly fine with continuing to contribute to the Buffett family fortune and will do so.
Put yourself in that position - Think about what you do for work (appologize for the profanity)
If you were as good at what you do as Jimmy is, would you do it for free? I think not
As for smaller venues, yeah I'd love to see a personal concert in a more intimate setting but can you imagine how tough those tickets would be to get? Talk about p#ssed off parrotheads!

I don't think it is what you are saying that upsets the majority here...it is how you say it. You are entitled to your opinion...good or bad, right or wrong...perhaps if you stated your opinion in a little more civil manner...it would be respected... whether people agree or not.MarvinGardensGhost wrote:

As a fan that has seen Jimmy 107 times since 1987, and has caught the Great Woods shows (both each year) for the last seven years, I agree with many on this thread picking Fenway was bad for our crowd.
I fly in to Boston just for these shows from San Diego, rent an SUV, put my California plates PIRET40 on the thing, decorate it up, and proceed to have one hell of a parking lot experience before each show. Yes, this is at least half the experience.
I just got back from the Ft. Lauderdale show, indoors, with a so so parking lot experience. I went to see Jimmy in Maui in February. No tailgating. I saw him during his private party in Vegas opening Margaritaville, again, no tailgate obviously. Only the Anaheim show this year had a great tailgate.
Folks, Jimmy should be sensitive to the tailgate experience. Irvine out west, and Great Woods are the holy grail of Buffett tailgates....and for the money many (if not all of us) spend on seeing him, he should know a BIG part of the show is "us" in the lot.
For a phan that sees him with and without tailgates, the experience difference is BIG!
Jimmy, looking forward to seeing you in Chicago at Tinley, but this phan will probably sit out Fenway..even though it is quite the place.
