If you have ever had a dreeam of being a rock star, then you have dreamed of playing at a stadium and what better stadium do it at! (besides Wrigley, of course!) I can not underatand why people are mad about this. The concert is not until September, so you have 5 months to save for it. I think the people of Boston should find something else to whine about. Imagine if you lived in the other 99.99% of the country that Jimmy does not play in. But as best as I could tell, the Boston area has about 3 different places that he could play at, (Jones Beach, Great Woods and Fenway). Just be glad that you have the chance to see him in concert. This is not a big deal. He will not play forever so you better see him when you can. If you go only for the tailgate, then you are going for the wrong reasons. This is starting to give Boston a bad reputation in my book.
First of all Jones Beach is in New York about 250 miles away 4-5 hour drive, so it is really not an option for most people in Boston. If Jimmy dosen't play near you go to him, if you are a real fan you will travel. It seems Jimmy is playing 2 times in Chicago so what are YOU WHINING about. Even Jimmy knows that tailgating is a huge part of the summer shows and some people look forward to it and to seeing other Parrotheads they might only get to see once a year.
So I think thats probably how most Parrotheads feel about it.

Methinks Steve is a wise man.

I'm glad for Jimmy - pretty cool to be only the second act ever to play Fenway.

I think 80% of the people on this board probably go that far (if not further) to attend a show each year......to real fans that is a short commute. Deal with it if you must....but if you are really skipping Fenway because there is no tailgate.....do the real parrotheads a favor and just stay away from all concerts.....leave the tickets for a real fan to enjoy the show.

Entertainers get paid well and I think if they want to keep getting paid well they should listen to there fans. I dont OWE him a thing. Just my 2 cents.
I've given him lots of money over the years as well....but don't think I've ever been shortchanged. As a matter of fact, us parrotheads should feel priviliged because Jimmy has kept the tickets pretty reasonable over the years (he could probably sell out every venue at $150-$250 a ticket based upon what other popular artists are charging these days). If someone is not happy with Fenway, than please don't go....but I don't see how anyone can think that Jimmy owes you a show at Great Woods each year. For all the concerts I've been to, recordings that I've bought, merchandise I've ordered from Margaritaville, and even meals I've bought at his restaurant.....I've never felt shortchanged. Truly, if people don't want to go...than don't....but I really feel Jimmy has given me more than enough value over the years that I would gladly help support any team he has...including buying a country album although I'd rather hear something different!

Great Woods Back in 2005

May 1, 2004 8:37 pm Submitted by: phjim Comments: (0)

Tonight on Radio Margaritaville, Steve Huntington said "Tailgating will be back at Great Woods next year, and the year after, and the year after, so get over it".

Fenway

Folks, lets think about this Fenway issue. Boston is going to get invaded buy 80K parrrotheads for a weekend. For those who are not from the area, Great Woods is not IN Boston, BIG DIFFERENCE! Do you really think that after this concert that they will want Buffett back in Fenway?? Would I prefer to see Jimmy in Great Woods? Absolutley!! BUT, its a one time thing, its a big deal, so better to enjoy it than b**** about it. Yes, there are some legitamate bitches; I could name quite a few myself! Bottom line, were off to see the master, it will be a one time deal, buffett-history will be made, we'll be part of it and we will have GW to look forward to next year!

When life serves you lemons; make lemonade............

Greatwoods or Fenway...... does it really matter? If you are a real phan, you will travel. If Jimmy wants to do Fenway, then so be it!

I just traveled 10 hrs to see Jimmy in Raleigh. Yes, I would have loved to have seen him in Nashville, but Nashville wasn't on the books this year so I got in the car and drove! While there, I met someone from Vermont! She drove 15 hrs to see Jimmy in Raleigh because when the Raleigh tickets went on sale there was no decision yet regarding Greatwoods or Fenway, which would have been closer.

I'm thankful that he is doing concerts on the East Coast / Southeast region so I can attempt to see him at all!

We all can't have Jimmy in our own backyards so take a plane, train, or whatever to get there!

Exactly, even though GW is am amazing place to see a show, the Fenway show will be a once in a life-time show. Even though tailgating at GW is awesome, being able to be at Fenway will be something I will remember all my life.

Hey, I wasn't bitching if you read the quote from captain joe he was the one whining about having to travel, I was just answering his cries. I will be at Fenway rain shine, tailgate or no tailgate. I have also driven to Jones Beach and Camden to see Jimmy and wouldn't think twice of doing it again so there, when I wrote most people in Boston that didn't include me. Will we see YOU at Fenway, or aren't you a real Parrothead.

I'm with you tommcat, there is no use for negative people like that around here :x , a Parrothead is a Parrothead weather he or she wants to or can or can not drive 500 miles to see Jimmy. Some people have real jobs in the real world. Hope to see you at Fenway tommcat. :pirate:

I am looking at this from an outside perspective here, but I think everyone here who is upset about the Fenway shows needs to remember a line from a JB song:

We've got to roll with the punches, play all of our hunches, make the best of whatever comes our way.

Now, I've never been to GW, but from what I've heard, it seems like an incredible place to see a show. I understand that you Boston parrotheads are disapointed with this decision. I probably would be too.

But, here's the deal: I am usually lucky enough to see Jimmy 2-3 times per year, and I look forward to those 2-3 days almost as much as any other day of the year. Over the years, I have seen shows at many differenet venues in many differenct cities, and of course, there are always some venues and cities that to me are better places to see him than others. But, I have never ever left a concert feeling disapointed; I have simply left some feeling a little less excited than other concerts. In fact, after just about every concert, one of my first thoughts is, "When can I do this again?"

I understand that some of you may not be able to afford the tickets or may not have the time to make the trip. But, for those of you who are staying home strictly because it is at Fenway, I personally cannot even imagine the thought of staying home from a concert because I thought the venue would not be as good as another venue where I have seen Jimmy. JB concerts to me are so much fun that I want to see him anywhere I can wherever I can.

Last year, on the night that he came to Atlanta, I had to go to an awards banquet and couldn't make the show. Even though Atlanta is a little over 200 miles from me, I would have made that drive in an instant. It was really hard on me knowing that he was that close by and I couldn't go. If JB was coming to my hometown, I would be chomping at the bits to go! I truly cannot believe that some of you people refuse to go to a show in your hometown because you think the venue is not as good as the other.

And, one final thing: I know that none of us like to think about this, but Jimmy is not going to be playing forever. The man is 57 years old, and there is no telling how much longer he'll tour. He's already said that he'll be back next year, but I would be very surprised if he is still touring eight years from now. Then, you won't have to worry about complaining about shows at Fenway because there will be no shows at Fenway--there will be no shows anywhere. Think about that!

The bottom line is...he could still realize his dream by playing Fenway, however also doing his two shows at Greatwoods for his fans.

Y'know something Dean, your statement about "real Parrotheads" and tailgating is arrogant beyond reckoning! It is akin to other statements I've read here that Buffett fans should be all too willing to take whatever Jimmy dishes out so far as venues, logistics and ticket prices. It is the classic adage, "Jimmy, love 'em or leave 'em."

Well, as far as we (my wife and I) are concerned, at Great Woods, at least 50% of the Jimmy Buffett Experience is in the parking lot. Hell, we spend 5-7 hours tailgating, and 2-3 hours watching the show. So it is AT LEAST half of the attraction. We have been coming from Long Island for the GW show as many years as I can remember...and I am not just talking about the years JB doesn't play Jones Beach. We have been making at least one Labor Day weekend show a year.

Fenway, schmenway...if this is Jimmy's yearly ego trip, so be it. As has been said here before, it is 4-5 hours travel for us to make the yearly trip to Mansfield, but we sure aren't going to make it to see Jimmy in a "logistically-challenged" venue like Fenway Park.

I know, I know...you're going to respond..."more tickets for true JB fans." Well, if blindly following Jimmy whereever and whenever he goes is the sign of a true fan, then I guess my wife and I don't fit the bill.

But at least knock off this high-minded attitude. It is embarrassing.

Parrot Head Mike must not be able to comprehend what he reads. In no way was I bitching about having to drive to see him. I have to drive about two and a half hours to see him. And as far as crying goes, I am not the one who will not shut up when it comes to Jimmy playing a concert. "Oh poor is me, Jimmy is going to play a concert at somewhere I don't like. I think I will b**** about it all over Buffettnews.com!" This is what it sounds like from the 15 threads about this stupid ass topic! And I must not be a true parrothead since I will not travel half way across the country to see him play. I will just go to both shows in Chicago, that is, if I can make the drive.
