wonder whats in jimmys iPod
i read an article that said jimmy loves his iPod and its one thing he couldn't do without. this made me want to buy one, yeah i know, i've already bought everything else except the planes, so why not. this made me start to wonder what kinds of music/artists jimmy would put on his. i have a good idea from his influences ie. pasty cline, bob marley, harry bel, and from his covers, but i would really love to know. anyone have an ipod?

I have a regular iPod (40GB) and I absolutely love it. I take it everywhere with me and with all the cool accessories, you make it do even more.pirateat30 wrote:the mini ipods are looking good. Not sure when they are finally hitting the mass market though..think they will sell for $250.
^^^^^^^
I haven't seen anyone with a mini yet either. I think if you are gonna spend the $$ on an ipod mini, you may as well spend a little extra and get the regular ipod.

RE: iPods
The batteries last about 1-2 years with moderate use. You can replace them without buying a new one...(NOT cheap, tho!!)
I have the FIRST version of iPod, and my batteries are just now getting weak!

Re: RE: iPods
that's not true, yes, you cannot change the batteries on your own, but you can send in your ipod and they will replace your battery for you...for a smaller charge I hear... some guy made a HUGE stink about it and got apple to change their policy.MarvinGardensGhost wrote:The batteries last about 1-2 years with moderate use. I don't know why people post things they have NO knowledge of....you most certainly CAN change the batteries yourself!!! Geeze!
You can buy the batteries and instructions on the Internet! (Yes, you have to take the iPod apart.....!!!)
Just search for "iPod batteries" and you'll get LOTS of sites selling the battery kits.....

love my iPod mini....
apple now charges $99 bucks for a battery replacement. or you can do it yourself if you're a little handy with some basic tools. plan on paying around $70 bucks for the battery since they're lithium-ion.
i don't expect the prices to drop much especially the mini since the wholesale cost of the hard drive in them is still very high.

I Know this isn't really based on the thread topic, but many are talking about the batteries.
When you change the batteries, I'm assuming you have to upload all of your music back to a computer system temporarily. Is this true?
I've been thinking about a portable MP3 player and am still checking with people on what they feel is the better unit.

Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.

I asked this very same question about a month ago on Buffett World's discussion forum. How funny....

At any rate, I'm on my third iPod right now. I had the original 5 GB - loved it. Upgraded to the second generation 10 GB model - loved it. Now I'm using the third generation model and guess what - love it!
The battery complaints are questionable. I used the 10 GB model for well over a year and half and was still getting 7 to 8 hours on one charge. The 5 GB I sold to a friend who confirms it sill lasts 5 to 7 hours on a single charge.
The batteries are replaceable as pointed out above - either through Apple or a third-party with the prices varying. I find, though, that I'm rarely in a situation where I need a long charge. I have a player/charger adapter in my truck, I hook it up to my G4 at work and I generally hook it up to my Macs at home. I do take it to the gym and seems to work fine the five or 10 minutes I'm there.
My wife as an iPod mini and loves it, too. (In case you couldn't tell, we're Apple fanatics.)
For those of you who haven't tried out iTunes Music Store, give it a shot. Today, tomorrow and Wednesday they are offering a different free download (Counting Crows, some opera singer and Nelly Furtado). At any rate, it will give you an idea how easy it works and how good the songs sound in AAC format (yes, I know, they aren't as good as AIFF or WAV files, but still, they are pretty darn good).
And the iTMS has 32 full or partial Buffett releases available for download. If you can't find 'em at Best Buy or Sam Goody, you can find it at iTMS.

Re: Ipod
I have deleted most of my mp3s off of my hard drive..so the majority of my collection is saved to the ipod only.tnsna wrote:My music is listed on in playlists in itunes on my ibook. So if batteries are changed it would not matter. Simply connect ipod to ibook and the automatic update is done!

Me too! My computer is happier for it.MelliJellyBean wrote:

But to play Devil's Advocate for a moment...I have a 20g Dell Digital Jukebox and absolutely love it. I'm not a huge Mac fan (go ahead, I've heard it all) but I did cross shop the PC iPod and found that my Dell unit is just as reliable. It holds most of my CD collection plus the 1000+ singles I used to have on my HD and uses an easy-to-understand version of the MusicMatch software for the transfer (and purchase) of songs. AND it's over $100 cheaper than a 20g iPod. Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say how much I love this little machine and give some contrast to all the iPod users.
