Just wondering if any has been to Hemingway's Tropical bar & Grill in Marietta (North of ATL). I see that the band A1A plays there a lot. Thinking about taking a weekend trip over there when they play.

I have 2 of their CD's they are pretty good. The A1A Live CD is pretty good, they do a good job on some of Jimmy's stuff.

Hemingway's if fun! But everytime I've been it's been packed. I think it's a popular place -- get there early! I also remember it being kinda pricey.

Also...There's a Wyndam Garden hotel close by. Nice hotel with good rates. They will drive you to Hemingway's for free and a cab back to the hotel isn't much.

I live about 4 miles from Hemingways. It's a very "Buffett-y" place and the bartenders make a mean long island iced tea. As one post said already, get there EARLY! Finding a place to sit isn't easy as the place isn't very big. My suggestion to anyone coming to hear the band play is this - I think that A1A is doing an outdoor show in August at the Marietta Square (right outside Hemingways front door). Come for that one night and hit Hemingways the other.

Been going there for years, under the old owner and now the new one. A1A isn't the only good band that plays there. Poor Otis, another local band, is excellent, although not much Buffett stuff. Several years back, A1A and St. Somewhere (before they got big) used to play there on alternate weekends. Those were the days.

A1A started out as Jeff Pike and Scott Nickerson (founder of the Atlanta PHC). Scott has since moved to N.C. and plays with them only ocassionally. There are now several other members, depending on the who feels like showing up for a gig.

Still a lot of fun, though. Yes, it can be a little pricey, but not too bad.

Botdrnk agrees with Cayman....can get a little pricey. And yes, Poor Otis is fantastic! I miss the days of Scotty with A1A. Seems like they don't kick into Jimmy's stuff until about 1/2 time. I'm ready for Sunny Jim to come back and play the patio. (Come on Adela...make those new owners schedule you guys!)

I'll second that! Seeing Sunny Jim outside on the patio was great, with or without Jim Morris! Sunny Jim comes through town from time to time, usually staying at the home of the president of the APHC. One night he put on a private show in the basement for a graduation party. Having Sunny Jim play all your requests ws fantastic!
