Ft. Lauderdale (Sunrise) Show - Horrid Acoustics

Post by rgentry »

I thought the acoustics were the bad at the American Airlines Arena in Miami last year, only to discover the acoustics in the Office Depot Arena at Sunrise Saturday night were worse. I don't know why Jimmy stopped appearing at the Sound Advise Amphitheatre (formerly Coral Sky), in West Palm; clearly the best venue in south Florida for a Buffett show. The show Saturday night, however, was great . . . just couldn't hear it. Tailgating was good but spread out over a large area in small groups. The Sawgrass Mills gustapo tried to stop the party . . . even called in reinforcements from the local police department; but, the party continued. Please Jimmy - return to SAA. [/b]

I was tailgating after the concert you guys might have seen us, it was a big white van with like 12 people drinking on the roof and just hangingout and i was talking to a parrothead from miami and he had told me that if someone dies at his concert, he does not play ever again at that stage in memory of that person. I dont know if it is true or not but he had told me someone died at mars music amphitheatre (sound advice) whatever you wanna call it and he doesnt play there anymore. It would be nice to see him there too.

Not sure if this is why he quit going there or not, but unfortunately, someone was indeed killed after the concert the last time JB was at West Palm Beach in 2001. Here is the story from the news archives of the Church of Buffett website:
A Jimmy Buffett fan died Sunday morning after she was struck by a van while leaving Saturday's concert, Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies said. Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, Leela Nolte, 21, of Bonita Springs was run over as she walked along Sansbury Way, just outside the Mars Music Amphitheatre. The northbound van that hit her was driven by Kelly Patten, deputies said. Nolte was trapped under the van and had to be extricated. She was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. The van also hit Jason Pillifant, 25 of Miami. He was treated and released from Wellington Regional Medical Center.
This was a horrible story, and I really hated to hear that such a thing happened. But, I'm not sure I would understand him not playing there anymore because of it. It was an awful tragedy, but it's the kind of thing that could happen anywhere.

On a much lighter note, since the place is called the Sound Advice Amphitheatre, it must have incredible sound!!

Gee, I was at the concert at ODC on Sat. and I thought the acoustics were great. Of course I had a floor seat. It was a great concert and I would go to Sunrise again.

Also, about the tailgating; we were informed on BuffetNews weeks before that there would not be any tailgating allowed at ODC. We were also told the gates would not be opened till 5:30. Lucky we were at the Bahama Breeze at 3:00 and someone there told us the gates opened at 3:00. We got over there and had a great time tailgating with everyone. It was great.

I was also at the show on saturday in Sunrise, and thought the acoustics weren't too bad at all, but we did have pretty good seats right by the stage. I was actually surprised that they were as good as they were considering that it was in a hockey stadium. Overall, a great concert.

The acoustics were not bad at all. Sure some of the dialogue in between songs could get a bit muffled...but I was tickled. Also the whole tailgating thing upset me. Sure I brought most of my stuff but I did not bring a tent or a BBQ this year due to this fact. Hopefully he will bring it back to Orlando next year so I won't have to drive so far.
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz & i'm fine
