Steve's comment has nothing WHATSOEVER to do with maturity. It has EVERYTHING to do with good manners.
Essentially Steve's comment (if true) is simply another way of telling the fans, "if you don't like it, F-off."
I don't care how you "spin" this remark, there is just no other way to interpret it.
B.
I guess if he included the words "you all should be thankful Jimmy is still touring" it would have made it better or worse?
It sounds like what alot of you are implying is Steve Huntington cannot have an opinion and express it but you can? Try being on the other end of the non-stop bitching and bickering and tell me you wouldn't say the same thing. Thank you Steve for saying what a lot of us have felt and I for one did not take it as arogance.
I think we all need to get over it and be thankful Jimmy is still giving us live shows NO MATTER WHERE HE DECIDES TO PLAY and yes he has every right to decide where to play. Let's be thankful he has also given us the ability to listen to his shows thru Radio Margaritaville when we cannot attend. How many other artists do that for there fans? Hell if you remember a couple of years back he even tried to include some video feeds. Does he have to do any of this?? HELL NO, be grateful people not hateful
JEEEZ...how have we all managed to forget that Jimmy is where he is today BECAUSE OF THE FANS!!
If it were not for his fans, he would be a burned out, 56 year old folk singer playing bars from New Orleans to Key West...NOT Fenway Park!
Get a little perspective folks...as fans - the people who put him where he is today - we have a RIGHT to complain. We've collectively paid for that right many time over!

It is all a matter of perspective... I am where I am today because of Jimmy... and I've paid him for many things, but NOT the right to complain. That comes free should I choose it.bgsherris wrote:JEEEZ...how have we all managed to forget that Jimmy is where he is today BECAUSE OF THE FANS!!

You only have the right to complain if you feel you've been shortchanged at any point in time.....however, I believe I've gotten fair value for all my concert tickets, CD's, merchandise, and meals I've bought from Jimmy and all of his business ventures. I don't feel I'm owed anything....he's given me my money's worth on all my investments.
Some of the merchandise offered by Margaritaville is priced higher than what I think it should be.....but I just avoid buying that particular shirt, glass, etc.
As a matter of fact, I think if I took it to the counter and said "I've been a parrothead all my life. I deserve to get this at half price and also want it monogrammed as Jimmy should personalize everything to suit me"......I think they would rightfully laugh at me.
Thats what I see happening with the Boston show...people opposed to it acting irrationally. You have a choice....if you don't think its worth the money, than don't buy a ticket.
However, don't feel that Jimmy owes you anything....if he has not given you value over the years, I don't understand why you'd want to see him again anyways....just find a new artist to follow if thats the case.

I have perspective - I'm a fan, but I don't own the man. And I can only control where I go to see him at this point, not where he chooses to play. I've chosen to buy his products and attend his concerts, but that doesn't mean he owes me anything beyond the music I bought and the concerts I attended.bgsherris wrote:Get a little perspective folks...as fans - the people who put him where he is today - we have a RIGHT to complain. Perspective is realizing how ridiculous it is that a bunch of grown adults are actually whining about how upset they are that Jimmy chose to play one Massachusetts venue over another. Perspective is not attempting to to rationalize one's own selfish desires as anything but what they are. Perspective would be realizing that, Great Woods or not, there's still going to be a gathering of Jimmy and a bunch of Parrotheads who, somehow, discovered that the sun still miraculously rose after a Labor Day weekend without Jimmy in Mansfield.
All of this makes me think that way too many folks have lost "perspective" on what's truly important and what's merely window dressing.

Re: Steve Huntington's Arrogance
Ya know I would mostly agree but there are a few other things worth mentioning. Fans I think become somewhat habituated to certain venues, they count on him playing about the same time and same place every year. It is convenient for one thing for knowing he will return increases the chances of repeating past experiences at that particular venue. We know what we will do, how we will do it and where we will do it. Though I am not questioning his perogative, it does throw a monkey wrench into our plans. Bummer, yes, I will get over it and unlike many here, will suffer in silence. We can adjust mostly but the thought of him NOT coming back or reducing his concert run or leaving us out in the cold like San Diego and San Jose is tough to handle. But it is the whole notion of Jimmy, not just the concert we would miss. The friends, the party, the conversations and all the prep work. That too is as much of the experience as the icing on the cake concert.Key Lime Lee wrote:I have perspective - I'm a fan, but I don't own the man. I can see why some are upset, we were when he played The Pond but my gawd, we s*** it up, party on and move on. At the end of the day it is an experience that may last a few days or a week depending upon your dedication, it is not life, it is not day to day, compromise, improvise and overcome!!!!!!!

As Tiki Bar says, it's a matter of perspective. You can't please everyone.
People complained about the difficulty of getting enough tickets for Great Woods, so Jimmy does Fenway, which, I believe, holds more people. I'm sure Jimmy feels great about performing at such a large venue and probably it being sold out, or close to it. He's not a robot. He has his own dreams, too, and I'm sure it must be exciting for him. But he also values his fans' likes and dislikes, and so next year he'll be back at Great Woods.
Jimmy's New York fans have complained that he hasn't played Jones Beach in a long time. So this year he'll play Jones Beach. As much as we'd like him to, he just can't or doesn't want to play as many venues anymore, but I think he tries to switch some of them around each year to accomodate fans as best as he can. If he toured all the time, there would be people who would complain "why is he not recording" "why is he not composing" "why is he not writing more books", or "what kind of husband/father is he; how can he spend so much time away from his family". I'm lucky enough to live close to at least one of his concerts, and I can understand people who wish he would play at a venue close to them. But I think Jimmy does a great juggling job.
Re Steve H - I think "Hey, get over it!" is an expression that has become something people say these days without even thinking about it. Kind of: Jimmy's playing Fenway this year, he'll be back at Great Woods next year, there are a lot of people all over the country who won't even have a chance to see Jimmy, he's doing his best, you've expressed your displeasure at Jimmy's not being at GW this year, Jimmy's heard you and he'll be back there next year, so enough already! I don't think he was being arrogant, just probably an off the cuff remark because he has been so inundated with emails. Should he have said it a bit differently? Yes, he should have been a bit more diplomatic, but it was probably his attempt at being funny and trying to lighten up the situation.

I agree with him... and hope he was paraphrasing Jimmy..... GET OVER IT!!!bgsherris wrote:Is there anyone besides myself who finds Steve Huntington's remark, that we should "get over it," to be highly arrogant?Tonight on Radio Margaritaville, Steve Huntington said "Tailgating will be back at Great Woods next year, and the year after, and the year after, so get over it".
I will tell you guys this...if this comment is paraphrasing Jimmy, I think we all have something serious to think over regarding JB's sentiments toward his fans.
B.
It's a done deal, you can't change it, crying about it is a waste of energy! You don't have to like it to accept the fact it's happening and you don't have to like it to GET OVER IT! Do you think JB does what he does strictly because he cares about his phans? He does what he does because he enjoys it... if he didn't enjoy it anymore, I doubt he would go on tour just for us.... he does what he does because he wants too.. and that includes Fenway...... if you don't like it, don't go!
Do I want JB to play Fenway? NO
Would I rather go to GW? YES
Would I rather tailgate? YES
Am I going to try to get tix to Fenway? YES!
Am I going to have a good time? YES!
Am I going to leave with a smile? YES!
I knew I could use a bloody mary

Here's my take on the whole Fenway Park deal - I woke up this morning so how bad can things be? JB used to play Jones Beach every year, he doesn't anymore. I got over it by going to see him in other cities. You'll get over not seeing him at GW this year.
