Kindness at a Buffett Show

Post by TooMuchTequila »

I haven't been on here for a few days, as I have spent most of the week recovering from the Raleigh show. Sitting on the beach, on the coast of Carolina. What a spectacular show, we were sitting about 10 rows up from the stage off to the side(the closest we've ever been)with a great view. At intermission we were standing in the beer line and got into a conversation with the guys behind us. They really liked my husbands "Jimmy for president" shirt. We got talking and mentioned that we came from New York, they were pretty surprised that we went that far, as to rearrange our vacation to go to a Buffett show! They told us that they had two extra tickets if we wanted them. 4th row!!!!!!!!! we said of course, and thanked them profusely, just short of kissing their feet! They made two NY parrotheads very very very happy. We had never been that close. Then in the middle of the second set the guys bought us another beer! I always knew that parrotheads were the nicest people in the world but this went above and beyond my wildest dreams. Actually it made my parrothead dreams come true, the only thing better would be to meet Jimmy in person. Like that will ever happen! :D But hey you never know!!

I was wondering what kind of kindness experience you other BNer's have had at a Buffett show?

At my first Buffett show (Atlanta '94) I cut my foot pretty bad on a rusty pipe sticking out of a guy's pick up truck. I didn't know what to do and neither did anyone else. All of a sudden, out of now where, this woman come over with a bandage and a bottle of vodka. She inspected the gash, poured the vodka on it and bandaged me up. She said I could go to the show, and didn't need stiches. Later I found out she worked at one of the local hospitals as a nurse.

TooMuchTequila, wondered what happened to you two, I forgot to hand off the slut cup for a journey north!!!!!!!! was good meeting you two, had a blast at Raleigh.
well I hesitate to toot my own horn but whatever I will anyway. We had two extra seats for Raleigh. Met a nice young fella coming home to Raleigh on leave from the Air Force. Struck up a brief but telling conversation while waiting to board the plane. Upon arrival in Raleigh I approached him and his girlfriend and offerred the tickets with the promise they not sell them to anyone and if not used passed to someone who could use them. I left the Air Force in 1977 and he reminded me of me all those years ago. They made the concert, eyes wide open, surprised by the crowd's enthusiasm. Tickled me to no end watching those two watch the crowd and Jimmy perform the magic.

I have a couple of stories, both very similar to those above. A few years ago, my wife and I had gotten separated from our group on the lawn. No problem, we enjoyed the show, just the two of us. A guy standing next to us said he had pavillion seats, but wanted to stay on the lawn with his friends. He gave us his tix and we saw the rest of the show from great seats, not quite 4th row, but great.

The other story was from the Today show a few years ago. I brought my nephew. It was his 18th birthday that day and he was a budding parrothead (now full fledged). We had to get up early to drive to NY and be in place by 5:30am. We didn't get much sleep and didn't eat much for breakfast. After standing in the crowd for about 2 hours, my nephew suddenly passed out! Within seconds there was a doctor, two nurses and an EMT helping him out...all parrotheads standing in the crowd. They brought him to, they checked him out and they helped him find a seat.

I have tons of stories of friendly behavior in parking lots, in getting tickets, and even on this board. But those two really show how generous parrotheads can be.

Lets keep up the good work!

I have an awesome story about the people at the Pepsi Center. Last year on April 24, 2003, my fiance proposed at the JB concert in Denver. He had been in contact with the Pepsi Center PR people trying to arrange something special for me, like a proposal on the Diamond Screen or having Jimmy play a certain song.

Well, he hadn't had much success with pulling off anything super-special but when we got to the concert, the "WDWGDAS Hula Contest" was going on. My daughter and I were doing our little Hula thing. Everyone loved my daughter as the winner. But, because she was only 5 at the time, she couldn't go on stage during WDWGDAS (obviously). So, the Pepsi Center folks kindly upgraded our seats from Nosebleed w/ Obstructed View to the 1st row. One of the roadies gave us a Jimmy Buffett guitar pick and Jimmy waved to us from the stage.

It was the best day ever!

I love this thread... so positive!!! I have a story, though not quite as serious as the others... I was walking around the lots at GW and was on the other side of the lots from our car and I blew out my flipflop (no lie!) Worried about walking all the way back barefoot and stepping on a pop top or worse, I was kinda just standing there wide eyed flipflop in hand. Some guy saw me and offered up his staple gun, used for putting his tailgate set up together, and stapled my flipflop back together so i could get back to my car safely. So nice!

Nice thread.
This pales in comparison, but, if there is a little kid near me and a beach ball comes by, I will (try to) catch it and give it to them to hit.

I think that is awesome. It's not small in comparison to the little kid you helped!!

I went to the chicago show 2 years ago with my mom and my 2 sisters. It was getting close to concert time so we made our way up to the gate. With the last of our beer in our hands. We got to the front dumped the beer (since you cant bring it in obviously) and when we went to go it, the ticket guy said my sister couldnt bring in her bag. So we had to walk all the way back to the car, Mind you we just dumped out our beers. :o Walking back we heard someone yell, Looks like you ladies need a beer. (we did) Some guy was there with his dad, we chatted a while and they gave us each a beer. They were even nice enough to take our picture for us. Best picture we have from the concert. all of us in our leis and hula skirts and free beer in our hands. Little things like that make parrotheads so cool.

This is cool so many parrotheads helping each other, I'll toot your horn for you Bumper. That was a very cool thing to do giving away those tickets. My mother's fiance is in the Air Force and is over in Spain right now. Whenever you want to take us up on that fishing trip on the St. Lawrence just let us know. I started this thread because I was a little sick of the complaining and belly-aching going on around here lately. I know Parrotheads as a whole are good kind-hearted people who just want to have a good time. Thats exactly what happened in Raleigh, a good time was had by all. I will be giong to that place in Boston (don't want to say the name) And we will have a great time there too!!! Keep the kindness going at your next show, help out a phellow parrothead if you can! :D :D :D

For me, it's hard to pinpoint one specific act of kindness, but there are so many little ones it astounds me every time! I've experienced many technical difficulties with my "outfit", and everyone is always willing to lend a hand to get me back in order.

Everyone opens their arms and hearts in the spirit of mi casa es su casa... from beverages and eats, beer bongs, photo ops, leis and beads, and everything you can imagine. I just walk through the parking lot, and everyone is sharing and caring for eachother, and it's an amazing feel good. I think it's the epitome of being high on life, whether there were other contributing factors or not.

Awesome thread!

There is no need for any kind of bad attitudes at a buffett show, I'm guessing almost anyone who has been two a buffett show and tailgated has received some kind of food or beverage from a neighbor at the show.

I have a couple things.....first and foremost a continual thank you to fellow BNer Mason for trading me seats during the second half of the San Jose show this past Jan. We both had floor seats.....mine in the 25th row and his in the 2nd row! He knew I had never experienced anything like it and wanted to share. So he graciously switched with me to go back to the 25th row and stand with my hubby (who by the way was de-flowered at this show :D ) for the whole second half of the show!! I'll never forget it!! THANK YOU AGAIN, ALWAYS!!

We also actually had extra tickets for that show that my husband wound up giving away to a mother and daughter.......I wasn't with him at the time so I don't know the whole story, I just know that he wouldn't accept money for them.

Then, this brings me back to my first days here on BN last year.......another fellow BNer tgr8one, aka Dave, was giving away his tickets to Las Vegas because he couldn't make it. I contacted him but wound up not being able to go and he eventually found someone here to take them. To make a long story short, we stayed in contact, met up at the Vancouver, WA show and have been friends now for over a year.

I have had nothing but completely awesome experiences with all you parrotheads out there! I'm happy to be a part of such a wonderful phamily!!

Two stories-both no big deals, but meant the world to me:

1)Alpine Valley, 2002-my wife and I had pavillion seats that were in a pretty good location. Not anywhere near the first few rows, but still great seats. We went in early, got to our seats at about 7:00 PM, about an hour before concert time. At that time there were probably about only 50 people inside the venue, and just as we sat down Peter Mayer came out on the stage for a sound check. He's always been my wife's favorite Coral Reefer, and I think she likes him more than she likes Jimmy. Anyway, when he came out to the stage, we both waved at him from our seats, and he smiled and waved back. THAT would have been enough to keep us smiling, but what he did next blew me COMPLETELY away-he handed a guitar pick to one of the security guys, and pointed to my wife for him. The security guy then came to our seats, handed my wife the guitar pick, and told her it was from Pete. I don't know who was smiling more-her or him. What a nice gesture from a great guy.

2)Chicago, 2003-I met a couple in the parking lot, we had a few beers together, chatted about this and that, then about 8 other friends of this couple showed up and they all commenced to tailgating with each other, when this guy's wife told me her and her husband each had a ticket to the Corona beer tent, and she wasn't going to use hers because she wanted to tailgate in the parking lot with her friends, and asked if ~I~ wanted to use it.
HELL YES, I said.
Offering me a ticket for all the Corona beer I could drink and all the cheeseburgers I could eat is like offering a dog with weak kidneys a California Redwood.
