very very rarely jimmy has some friends backstage, but unless jimmy personally invites you, you aren't getting there. i would hazard a guess the seats were for the production crew.

IF YOU ARE OFFERED BACKSTAGE PASSES IT IS A SCAM. JIMMY DOES NOT HAVE BACKSTAGE PASSES.
There are Backstage passes for the press.

He doesn't? I have backstage passes waiting for me at Will Call every tour. Do you consider backstage passes to be the "Access All Areas" lanyards that the band and crew wear? If that's the case, then I only get "Guest Passes," which give me access to the band and the free beer.
Still, if someone on the phone offers one, they're not likely to be the real thing.

last year in chicago I had front row tickets and there where little bleachers set up just off stage on the left side. These people where parrotheads... not press... must have been 12-15 people a few looked like kids... just curious

"I am completely jealous of the previous 2 posters."
Becuase of the backstage part, or the free beer part?
I should make it clear that I have never been fortunate enough to meet Jimmy. I keep hinting to my contact that I would like to, though.

I had backstage passes in Vegas 2 years ago. Most of the band members stopped by for at least a few minutes but I never saw Jimmy. And yes, there was free beer.

There is nothing wrong with COD or WU. You just have to be careful. If somebody calls you out of the blue offering tix that sound too good to be true, it probably is. This guy told me that somebody from these boards gave him my name and number. I know he got that info from the tix board. He never told me who gave him my name. He also said he was too busy when I asked if I could have his number and call him back in a few minutes after speaking to the spouse. And it sounded identical to a similar con that has been done on these boards for the past 2 years that I know of. I received an almost identical call last year. I just wanted to post it so no newbies get ripped off. Even though I know better there was still this strong part of me saying, but what if? Maybe it's for real.
He claims they are press passes that aren't being used.
I would think you are fairly safe dealing with somebody who is on these boards regularly. If you don't know the person, ask somebody else on these boards who's been around awhile if they do know them. If in doubt try to meet the person and do the exchange in person, looking over the tix carefully. I believe there has been a thread on here before on how to spot a fake ticket.
By the way, I still don't have tix. I'll be going up day of show and trying to see if any clubs have any extras.

Guess it depends on your definition of a "backstage pass". He certainly has hospitality VIP passes which allows you to get coralled in a room with free beer and a bazillion other folks who have hospitality passes before the show and during intermission. Not that free beer is bad, but you don't really have access to backstage.
Yes, sometimes certain band members will come by the room/locker room/party pavillion but usually because they've hooked someone up with the hospitality passes. You certainly can't go see them and you only get to Jimmy if you've been hooked up with a meet and greet - where you get coralled into another room where Jimmy waits and shakes your hand.
But Charlie's right - outside of the VIP and Guest passes for the hospitality area, there are no "backstage passes"

There were a handful of chairs set up way out on the side of the stage in Maui. (It couldn't be termed backstage because there was no backstage.) Though ETP and I couldn't be sure because of the dim light, one of the men looked like Tom Watson, the pro golfer. And since there was pro golf being played right down the road that weekend... We figured that the rest of the ten or so people sitting there were some of Jimmy's close friends and/or family. They definitely weren't loco parrotheads... a) they were dressed like
normal people.... b) they sat quietly.... and c) they didn't do fins....

As I have mentioned in earlier posts I am a police officer from Chicago. Just the other day I had an opportunity to work with the U.S. Postal Authority. They told me many scam artists use Western Union because of a number of items. First, the scam artist will use a location that has many Western Union outlets. Secondly, Western Union gives some sort of i.d. number for each transaction and the scam artist will ask you for this number. This is a little like the tracking number for U.P.S. and they will be able to confirm right away that the money is being transferred.
I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but please remember that deals that appear to be too good to be true usually are. Front row seats (1st to 4th rows) from reputable ticket brokers (yes I know that is a oxymoron) usually go for in excess of $700-$1000.

I was ripped off by Western Union on an Ebay purchase. I disputed it with my credit card, but didnt prevail. I WILL NEVER USE WU AGAIN. Stick with paypal. WU is tailor made for scams. Paypal is much more difficult to be annonomous.
