Stop with all this Kenny Chesney madness! I suggest if you want to check out a true Buffett-like artists check out Todd Snider. He is a great songwriter/storyteller just like Bubba! I don't think Chesney writes any of his songs and i've never heard tell a story. He sounds like corporate Nashville crap to me. All of my daughters 9 year old girlfriends like Kenny Chesney. They also like Clay Aiken and Outkast. Teeny bopper music! They can have it! You want to see a good show, go and see Todd Snider! Church of Buffett has endorsed him!

He does write his songs. But he is a parrothead and who can find fault with that? And he puts on one hell of a show from what I've seen on CMT. I'm not strictly a country fan but rather a music fan either. There is some country I can't stand just as there is some teeny bopper music I can't stand. To me good music and entertainment is good no matter who the artist is.
and after what I've read in pd at Cobo those people there just plain askare me
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

If I were in a recording studio today I would be recording Buffettesque songs and if that makes me a wanna be, so be it!
What's so wrong with more island music?
If the songs are good, the songs are good........bottom line, no matter if Jimmy, Kenny, Jim Morris, Sunny Jim, Toby Keith, Tracy Byrd or anyone does them.
Who cares?

I'm a big Todd Snider fan myself but I never got a chance to see him in concert until last year when he was out on tour with John Prine. It was just him, an acoustic guitar and a harmonica but it was one of the most entertaining shows I've seen in quite some time. Both Snider and Prine mentioned Buffett that night (this was shortly after Buffett's father passed away as did Todd's) so despite the sad circumstances, it was nice to know they are still on good terms with each other.a1aara wrote:Stop with all this Kenny Chesney madness! worse in what aspect?a1aara wrote:If there is one person that I can think of that is worse than Kenny Chesney, it would have to be Toby Keith.
to each his own. I happen to like both KC's and TK's music very much.

Same here. And I am sure I could list dozens of artist that I can't stand that you or someone else SGH for example would come right back and say they love them.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:worse in what aspect?a1aara wrote:If there is one person that I can think of that is worse than Kenny Chesney, it would have to be Toby Keith.

So what's the freaking point of bringing this up? You don't like him don't buy his cd's and don't attend his concerts. End of Discussion.

There is alot of spiteful anger toward kenny i see because people dont want to admit that he has buffett qualities. If Jimmy is fine with it why can't you be. The anti toby sentiment my guess would be because of his political views, not his music. Because if you listened to toby's music instead of being stubborn you would hear a buffett sound there as well.

[quote="Lou_A1A"]My wife and I saw KC last Friday night here in Jacksonville with no idea what to expect. He put on a good show, it was high energy, and he didn't mess up any of the words to the songs.
I like Kenny Chesney just fine but.......maybe when he's got 300+ songs under his belt, he may mix up a few lyrics too.

didnt wanna make another chesney post, so figured i would add to this one, figured i would mention that chesney mentions more than buffett in his songs, he has brought up the likes of don maclean, john mellencamo, and billy joel. He also did a show with mellencamp on the cmt show crossroads. The man respects other artists and htis is how he shows his respect for them. He covers some jimmy songs i here live, but i havent heardthem so i cant vouch for that. Other than that he covered back where i come from, which is a mac macanally song, not a jimmy buffett song. So on thatn giht lets lay off chesney for the whole "trying to be like buffett thing" instead lets go to his shows, do some tailgateing, and enjoy a guy whose own songs are excellent, and shows plenty of respect to his influences. (jimmy shows quite a bit of respect to his influences, a lot of the songs he played at his last hsow i went to were not written by him)

I think I'm taking the boat to the Kenny Chesney concert in Dallas June 5th. If I'm taking it out of the water for Jimmy I might as well make the most out of it. Wonder if anyone's ever done this for a Kenny Chesney concert before?

Jimmy Buffett has enjoyed A 30 YEAR plus career. He still sells out everywhere he goes and sells a respectable amount of music. People who aren't fans of his know the "songs you know by heart" and that Jimmy wrote most of those songs. My question is: What has Kenny Chesney done to maintain a long career? Does he have any classic songs that could hold the test of time? Will a whole indusrty be built around "She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy"? I doubt it and I doubt he wrote that or many of his other "hits". I think it's great that people like him thats your choice. Listen away! But to call this guy the next Buffett, I just don't see it. I don't think Bubba can be that easily replaced and especially by a pre packaged corporate new country star. Does Kenny Chesney use his own band when he records or does he use a studio band assembled by his producer for his record label?
