To call Kenny Checney a good musician is an insult to good musicians. Does he even play an insturment?
Jimmy Buffett has not had a lot of "hits". What he does have is a whole cataloge of classic music that people love. If you are looking for "hits" enjoy Chesney, Outkast, or Tim McGraw.
Another great Buffett like artists to check out- Scott Kirby.

you obviously don't know enough about KC as a musician to qualify your statement and question....
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Put's on a great show, huh?botdrnk wrote:I don't think Kenny is trying to be like Jimmy, I think he's trying to establish himself as a different sort of country star.
I've attended all the "Back Where I Come From" shows, he puts on in Knoxville. It really is a great show....and YES he loves Jimmy's music and the "island lifestyle" (as much as we all do).

If any of you were a musician and wrote songs, don't you think some of Jimmy's influence would show up in YOUR work? I'm still on the fence about KC using maybe TOO much Jimmy in his concerts, cause I can't think of any other artist who does this. Maybe if he covered a few other artists tunes as well as Jimmy's it might not seem so wierd. But I do know that I play guitar and if I were to start a band (fat chance), some of the first songs I would cover would be Jimmy's. Let's face it......he's timeless!

I stand corrected. But I still think he overdoes the Jimmy thing. (just a little) I guess he's just tryin' to entertain.big hat carmen wrote:Kenny does cover other artists; Bruce Springsteen and George Strait and probably others.

No problem, I respect people who voice their opinions. But some people (not you) become almost belligerant (sp) trying to win us to their side.bananaman wrote:I stand corrected. considering how I've heard that KC is a HUGE Buffett fan and has been for YEARS then I really don't think he's over doing it

First of all let me say I was raised on both rock & roll and country. And because of my exposure in both I have got to ask exactly what are you thinking? Without me surfing to find out facts before I speak, so I may be completely wrong here but I am pretty dadgum sure that KC has had more hits than Air Supply and put out more cd's/albums

If faced with Chesney, Air Supply or sticking my head in a fan, Chesney would still be a distant third.ph4ever wrote:thekidsalami wrote:The Rick Springfield of country music. All style, no substance. Chesney is to country what Air Supply is to rock n roll.

He currently opens his set with his band playing AC/DC and his final song of the set is a cover of John Mellencamp's Jack and Diane.bananaman wrote: Maybe if he covered a few other artists tunes as well as Jimmy's it might not seem so wierd.
Diverse enough if you ask me, but everyone seems to only jump on him about covering Buffett.
In a limited edition CD he also covers:
Marina Del Ray
I Wonder What You Think of Me
I'm On Fire
I Always Get Lucky With You

I'm so glad that someone else saw it my way. I thought I was a lone horse. I chimed in on the "Kill the messenger" thread and compared admiration from Buffett to Bob Marley. Ruffled lots of feathers. It's all about entertaining. Both do it and do it well. This seems to be a very touchy subject. We all love JB or we wouldn't be here right????? So, I'm moving along and I hope I haven't thoroughly offended anybody.
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)
