L'AIR DE LA LOUISIANE Jesse Winchester
Promenade dans un bois la vielle Louisiane
Les ombres lougnes nos pas silents
l'air de la Louisiane
Toi et moi ne parlant pas
en sucant d'la canne
Pour un instant je suis content en
l'air de la Louisiane
Pour un instant je suis content en
l'air de la Louisiane

English Lyric
A walk in the woods of old Louisiana
the shadows are long
Our steps are silent in the Louisiana air
You and I say nothing as we s*** sugar cane
For one minute I'm happy in the Louisiana air

From "VOLCANO"

CHANSON POUR LES PETITS ENFANTS Jimmy Buffett
Now young Mr. Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
They soared through the Milky Way counting the stars
Once around Venus, twice around Mars

Then they spied an island rise out of the sea
They fell back to Earth just as free as you please
The children all gathered the church bells did ring
Suddenly everyone started to sing

Chorus
Chanson pour les petits enfants
Chason pour toute le monde
Chanson pour les petits enfants
Chanson pour toute le monde

Queen of the island she welcomed them in
Asked them questions of where they have been
She offered them chocolate she offered them tea
They all took their seats in the top of a tree

And racoons brought wine and the mice they brought cheese
Beautiful birds floated by on the breeze
From out of the oceans the dolphins began
Humming a tune that soon covered the land

Chorus

So young Princess Lia brought coral and pearls
Gifts to the travelers from some other world
The Bushdoctor mixed up a magical spell
Swore them to secrecy, never to tell

So young Mr. Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
The sun was rising, they'd be home by noon
Humming the words to this magical tune

Chorus

Song for the children
Song for the world

African Friend

'Messieur ou y est casino?'
Spoke to the cabbie and smiled
Driver replied, 'Vieux ou noveaux'
As he motioned the dark man inside

There's some in "Frenchman for the Night":

From his driftwood castle
Comes a song I've heard before
A scratchy gramophone cuts to the bone
"La Vie En Rose" arpeggios
So the dream begins
And the song is amplified
Buy the Beaujolais, on Bastille day
He dances in the tide

Chorus
By the light of the moon
He's a Frenchman for the night
By the light of the moon
It'll be all right

Well it takes him back
To the days of love and war
And the girl he knew with eyes of blue
Waiting on the shore
If he'd only known
How the years would fly on by
Such a simple crime, he's run out of time
So he reaches for the sky

Chorus
Blame it on the Champs Elysees
Blame it on a tune
Blame it on the stroke of Monet
But you can't escape the moon

He sees the stars above
As the floor to heavens light
While the angels taunt "C'est une nuit blanche"
He's a Frenchman for the night

Chorus
From a driftwood castle
Comes a song I've heard before
A scratchy gramophone cuts to the bone
"La Vie En Rose" arpeggios

...and there's some in "Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants" which I brought to school for my French class back in High School. It sure beat the hell out of our French teacher's Mimi Farina records.

Now young Mr. Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
They soared through the Milky Way counting the stars
Once around Venus, twice around Mars

Then they spied an island rise out of the sea
They fell back to Earth just as free as you please

Autour du Rocher comes to mind first, even though dear Jimmy does mangle some French vowels!

Mademoiselle Voulez-Vous Danser
By Lennie Gallant

Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser?
Take my hand, don't turn away
You've been sitting there all night long
I know that something must be wrong

Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser?
A new moon has come out to play
Take my hand, step outside
These doors and windows open wide

The stars are out and shining, hear the south
wind sighing
It'll be okay
Let the breeze caress you, violin undress
your heart
On va danser

Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser?
It will soon be the break of day
We all have so little time
Oh won't you put your hand in mine

The stars are out and shining, hear the south
wind sighing
It'll be okay
Let the breeze caress you, violin undress
your heart
I swear, on va danser

Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser?
A new moon has come out to play
Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser
It will soon be the break of day
On va danser
On va danser

Madamoiselle, voulez-vous danser
Madamoiselle, voulez vous danser
Danser
We all have so little time

:D - Lennie Gallant is from our neck of the woods and is awesome....
