Lets put it this way, had the Fenway Buffett tickets been sold only through the Red Sox and their online ticket system (Like all Red Sox Tickets are) people here would have a whole new positive outlook about Ticketmaster. The Red Sox online ticket system is by far the worst.
Ticketmaster isn't the greatest, they could and should improve their services but even with all their flaws they are not that bad.

I always use TM's website because I can never get through on the phone. I've gotten tickets to every concert I've tried for (not just Buffett) in the last 3 1/2 years and I've been in the first 10 rows 5 or 6 times so I can't complain. Maybe I'll start complaining when (or if) I get shut out.

Exactly, could you imagine the feedback about the virtual waiting room had they been sold through the Red Sox.
For those of you who have never tried buy Sox tickets during a busy time, you have no idea how bad the Red Sox virtual waiting room is.

I'm counting myself VERY lucky to have scored two seats for Sunday...don't get me wrong, I'm not whining...but this thread is WHY DO WE BASH TICKETMASTER, so, here's an excellent example of why people hate them:
I was on the line from 9:55 - 10:20 saying.."Jimmy Buffett"...and it would say...OKAY ....Ginuwine...or OKAY...DISNEY ON ICE....so I'd say...Move on...and it would ask what venue...I said FENWAY PARK and it would say...OKAY...GILLETTE STADIUM..... so...no Friday seats for me
Most of their outlets around here are in Filene's - in the gift wrapping department, with arthritic Mabel running the machines at her best pace
Give me a while, I'll come up with more reasons.

"Why do we bash Ticketmaster?"
We bash ticketmaster because over the past 6 years their convience charges have gone up 7 bucks a ticket.
We bash ticketmaster because they have not upgraded their factilites or added more outlets despite this increase in "convienence charge", but they have added a webpage. If someone could please give em a real explanation as to why their webpage drops orders when there is high demand for a ticket, i thought that is why they started the virtual waiting line thing.
We bash ticketmaster because their the only thing out there for us since box offices to venues seldom open earlier or at the same time that ticketmaster does and because of this we expect good service.
We bash ticketmaster because there is no camping out! I say who ever wants tickets the most is going to spend the night on the sidewalk in a sleeping bag and deserves good seats for that, not to be given a lottery number.
There are other reasons why we bash ticketmaster, mostly personal, and some people have not been burned by TM yet. And I agree with those of you out there that TM is better than what else is out there, but come on it's no walk in the park for anyones wallet when they want to get tickets to any event, weather tickets start at $10 or $84. Good luck with all your ticket ventures and i hope you get to see Jimmy this year the show in Fort Lauderdale was astounding. Mad love to all parrotheads.

Last year, for The Dead's summer tour, they did something new. In addition to their usual mailorder (which works great) and ticketbastard, deadtickets.com did a neat thing. They opened a 2-3 day window to place your order on-line for tickets. Once the window closed, they then did a random draw for tickets of those that put in orders. Yes, you still have a chance of getting shut out BUT I'd rather get shut out by not getting my name drawn, then because TM's system couldn't handle the demand and my order was mysteriously cancelled. I'd go with luck of the draw over TM anyday!
At TM outlets, one of the problems is the length of time it takes to complete a transaction - a person asks for tickets, agent types into computer, customer/agent agree, then the payment process takes a few minutes.... during this time tickets are being scarfed up by internet and phone users - why don't TM outlets pre-print the tickets - each outlet could have an allottment that they preprint (morning of the on-sale). Then you walk up, say: "I want 8" you are handed a 'coupon' for 8 then get in another line to complete the sale and get handed your tickets - more people at the outlets would get tickets that way. (have to make sure the TM employees don't pocket the tickets themselves - keep them in a locked box or something. I've given up on outlets because I've been 5th in line and got shut out because it takes 5 minutes per person to buy a ticket.

While I know (and vividly remember) the tragedy of the Who concert in '79 where 11 concert-goers were killed, I still support festival (general)seating. First come first serve/ one ticket price. Though I would never attempt the floor seating/// could hardley breathe at a concert in Greenville, SC about 10 years ago that (surprisingly) had festival seating in their old arena.

ticketmaster is not that bad. If u got shut out because ticketmaster canceled your order, i can see u being upset there, i just have never seen this happen. There are only so many seats, so if u wake up 20 minutes late and there are no tickets left, dont be p***. And when it comes to ticket brokers, they buy all the tickets because they know people will eventually buy them, so if your that angry about it, dont buy from ticketbrokers. And festival seating, are you kidding me, general admission, there would be no comfort there what so ever, people would be fighting to the stage, you go to the bathroom and your forced to watch from a mile back.

I don't believe I have ever heard one person complain because they "woke up late and tickets were gone"

Ticketmaster has a long history of errors when it comes to their website - peroid. Lots of problems in the past and even reciently so the bashing is justified. Not all ticketbrokers sell all their seats either - I've seen them before shows, including Buffett, trying to unload seats right before a show.

Most Ticketmaster outlets would pump out the tickets when they went on sale and have them aside so when you walked up to the counter and you wanted 3 or 4 or whatever they would pull from the pile the had pulled and gave them to you but about 2 years ago TM started charging a higher service charge to people who pay via CC as opposed to cash so now before the tickets are printed they have to put into the TM computer how you are paying and it is by CC they have to swipe you CC into the TM computer this allows TM to charge you CC directly rather than the outlet. So when you get your bill it will say TM - Jimmy Buffett as opposed to TM-Filenes.....
The old way of pumping out tickets right when they went on sale worked great and more people inline got tickets. If Ticketmaster went back to CASH only at outlets that would speed things up allot.
The woman who was behind me inline Saturday (and thank god she was behind me or I may be typing this from jail) wanted 3 tickets but she wanted to know where the tickets were before paying for them, then she didn't like that location so he said just give me 2 so the guy had to release those three seats and look for 2 this went on for a few minutes plus she was on the phone with her husband asking him what to do, all the while people behind her were getting p***. She ended up waiting so long she got obstructed view seats, the person behind her was able to get 2 Sunday tickets also OV then both shows were sold out. If she would have just taken the 3 seats originally at least a few others would have gotten tickets.

Why I hate Ticketmaster is simple; their service is horrible. How many bad Ticketmaster stories compare to how many good ones? Has anyone heard of any good Ticketmaster stories? Not me.
Their cost is only an issue because of their service. When we pay for Ticketmaster's service, we are paying Mercedes prices, not Kia prices. If they want to lower their service, then fine, lower the price I have to pay for it and I won't b*tch anymore. But until then, I will NOT be a fan of Ticketmaster and their lack luster service.

My problem with TM is the fees. Here in NC it is illegal for me to resell a ticket for more than $3 over face value. That means I cannot even ask for what I paid for it since TM charges way more than $3 and those charges are not printed anywhere on the ticket.

The situation really isnt tht bad. You go to a sox game and the good seats for the good games are not filled wiht real fans, but instead corporate peoplewho can afford season tickets. Last buffett show i went to was still filled with parrotheads, and not taken over by no phans. In that regard I think ticketmaster is doing there job. Im sure if they wanted to thye could offer the tickets to high profile business owners in the areas at a premium price and in return they would give the tickets to clients, employees and themselves.
