I noticed this listing at trexonline under New Releases:

JIMMY BUFFETT Rancho Deluxe Soundtrack

...and this at Amazon.com:

Audio CD (May 11, 2004)
Label: Varese Records

I'm guessing this is part what some of us were discussing in the MCA thread the other day about Buffett apparently not having control over his back catalog. The tracklisting is the same as the previous release of Rancho Deluxe but is on a different label (Varese). The previous release was on Rykodisc.

Rancho Deluxe was originally released on the United Artists Label, I believe.

UA was eventually bought by MGM and in the late 90s Rykodisc struck a deal with MGM to re-release a bunch of the old soundtracks. Ryko didn't buy the masters - they just cut a deal for the release. The Ryko release includes some cool stuff on CD-rom too.

I don't know who Varese Records is, but it looks like they've released Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee...

I should of clarified, when originally released on compact disc it came out on Rykodisc. I have the original vinyl record in storage but I'm pretty sure it came out on United Artists as well. I also thought the Varese label sounded familar.

Varese Records did an awsome job on the Down To Earth and High Cumberland reissues and took advantage of the open license to those album's rights the right way. I guess the soundtrack to Rancho Deluxe isn't owned by any major label and is also open for license, like Jimmy's first two releases are.

I wish Varese could get their hands on Jimmy's 73-88 catalogue, as I know they would give the albums remasters and pay close attention to all the art, photos and liner notes of the original pressings.

I found the "Rancho Deluxe" DVD somewhere last year, we've watched a couple of times and listened to it many. many, more, brought back memories of stumbling into our local theater in the 70's not knowing what we were gonna see and coming out going wow! what a wild movie, look'n at the back cover and "Music by Jimmy Buffett" printed boldly on the credits. :pirate:

http://www.buffettfan.net/gallery/displ ... 69&pos=421, here's the sign from Gilley's were Urban Cowboy was filmed, it's now located in the parking lot, along with tons of other neat stuff, of a resturant called "Cowbay Ranch" in Pasadena Texas. The food and atmosphere were great if you ever find yourself outside of Houston. :pirate:

Lee, big soundtrack label. The label is a godsend to movie soundtrack buffs, me included.

I noticed Rancho reissue listed in the latest issue of Film Score.

I saw it under 'New Releases' at the local record store here in Charlotte. Was surprised to see it.

For those that are curious, like myself, here's the artwork for the new release of Rancho Deluxe on Varese. According to AllMusic.com, this version doesn't include any dialogue from the movie between songs as the MGM version did. The review doesn't mention if it has the enhancement features that were on the MGM version.
