I'm referring to the people that jumped all over me for posting news articles. On every other music message board I frequent (and music listservs) everybody contributes articles, only here has it ever been an issue. Now that it's known that it's not a bandwidth issue, I was just clarifying that matter.

I think instead, I will begin frequenting music boards where all of us are allowed to post articles and the roost isn't ruled by just a few, everyone has a voice.
There's a difference between "jumping all over" and constructive criticism that you don't seem to be able to distinguish. I don't think you were ever jumped on until you became argumentative about the suggestions you were receiving. The suggestions were made because we all do have a voice.

Why you refuse to try any of the suggestions is a mystery... whether the issue is bandwidth, relevance, quantity, or whatever, what would be so hard about doing one ongoing thread per week, with just the links to the articles you find interesting? Why do you insist on pasting the whole article, and why do you insist on multiple threads? Why be so defiant? The suggestions would allow for clean concise area for your audience to interact.

Jumping off... :D

Considering that I have been a member of this message board since October of last year and have contributed articles on a regular basis since then, it strikes me as a bit odd that this has suddenly become an issue. What about the other people that have posted articles (yes, they're in the minority but believe it or not, there are others besides myself that have posted them). I'm sure if I posted just the link then someone would eventually find something else to harass me about, at least that kind of behavior has been my experience since I have been here. Not to mention, some of the articles I find have been posted to other music lists and/or message boards that I belong to and don't include a link, so there is no other alternative than to post the whole thing. As far as copyright laws, I suggest checking the News section of this site or the News section of any fan-run web site for that matter and you will see it's something that people do all the time. Does that make it right? Maybe not, but it's not like it's something totally out of the ordinary like some of you are trying to make it out to be. Like I said, no matter what I do or what I say, one of you will find something to take issue with me over. There are actually people here that support me posting articles in their entirety but they are afraid to stand up to any of you. I have corresponded with the owner of this site and will abide by whatever his decision may be. However, I will not tolerate receiving PMs from bullying moderators that threaten to delete my posts if I post one more news article, that is totally uncalled for. I am fully capable of taking constructive criticism but I'm still a bit bewildered as to why some of you perceive this to be such a problem when it is the norm to post articles in every other message board and listserv I belong to. I think it has more to do with anything relating to a bandwidth issue, it seems many of you apparently don’t' have anything else better to do than harass your fellow posters such as myself. What about the nonsensical threads that go on endlessly? Aren't those that contribute to them equally as guilty of taking up valuable bandwidth (if that is even the issue at hand)? How come everyone doesn't come down on them? I'd much rather spend my time in a forum where my every post isn't under constant scrutiny, where the posting of articles isn't questioned but encouraged and even welcomed. That is the type of reception I am accustomed to, not the big brother mentality I have experienced at this site. I prefer boards where the environment is actually friendly, not hostile like it can be here. That's one thing I never imagined I would run into, especially at a message board devoted to Jimmy Buffett. I invite any of you to visit any of the forums I frequent and see that I am not the only one that posts articles, it is nothing out of the ordinary there but for some reason it is here.

By the way, I do enjoy it here or I wouldn't keep coming back to this board. To those of you just waiting to see me go, I'm not going anywhere. And thanks to everyone that supports me here, please don’t be afraid to speak your mind and by all means don't allow our actions to be dictated by a precious few that get their jollies by needlessly harassing others, these message boards can be a fun and friendly place but not if you let them push you around.

Yep, and as I said in my post above I'm not going anywhere. See what I mean about what a friendly bunch some of you are? The Jimmy Buffett fans I know are much more friendlier and open to people than some of the people I've encountered here.

well jah, where do i start?
maybe nobody has said anything until now because like me they didnt realize how many people the threads bothered.until cubbie said something i thought i was the only one.apparently i'm not :-?
you constantly mention other boards not minding all your threads.are they music boards in general or dedicated to one artist?the reason i skip over them is because 99% of them are about singers i dont like.this isnt rollingstone,if i wanted random music info i'd go to rollingstone.com.even so,nobody has an issue with the threads being here, just that they are so long and so many.which people offered a solution for,and you declined :-?
as far as nonsensical threads?plenty of them have been deleted,it's not just you
and i'd say the main problem is you.people have offered constructive criticism, solutions to the problems and mostly in a kind tone.you however are the one who blows everything out of proportion, thinks everyone is out to get you and is acting like a child in general.nobody had anything mean to say until you responded the way you did.and the fact that so many people seem to have a problem with one person tells me where the problem lies.
and if you want to threaten to leave and go to other boards then do it,dont just talk about it.just remember, nobody asked you to,you offered

Jahfin,
I haven't seen all of the posts but I don't sense that anyone's trying to run you off. If the consensus from the moderators is to consolidate articles into a single thread each week, consider giving it a shot. I think it's a reasonable suggestion that would work well for all parties. I find your articles insightful and I like the variety they bring. However, I could get the same benefit by jumping to the latest post in a single thread of articles each week. I don't see why it's that big a deal - other than your comparison to other forums. This is not the other forums you visit, and I don't know what they are like. I've got time for one discussion board and this is it. It's better to accept BN for what it is rather than force it into something it's not.

I do respect your insights and opinions, but I would go with the flow on this one.

Alright. I have to admit it. I'm one of the one's that agrees with Jahfin and I'm too afraid of the moderators to say anything.

Wait, no I'm not! Jahfin, you're a tool dude. Quit yer bitchin'!

Jahfin,

I have delt with just about all the moderators here and for you to say that they send you pm's threating to delete your posts and calling them bullying is unbelievable. I have yet to meet a moderator here that is not kind and understanding. Your bad mouthing moderators got you banned from CoBo - you would have thought you learned your lesson then.

As has been pointed out when the thread started requesting that you do a weekly thread it admited that you had a vast knowledge of music and you received several compliments - yes there were naysayers but not one negative thing was said until YOU started it. (for those of you unfamiliar http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... 22&start=0 ) You gave the attitude of ***** everyone's desire - people were trying to work with you for a compromise so it wasn't necessary to go back several pages to add something to a different thread that was only a few days old. I went thru 5 pages looking for the above referenced thread which is only 9 days old finding 17 threads created by you that had no replies whatsoever. This is an example of the problem in which people are having and were trying to work with you for a compromise that would allow us to find older posts easier and you to continue to give us your wisdom.

Your saying you have several people that back you but are afraid to speak their mind is another issue I find hard to swallow. I have never met someone here that is afraid to speak their minds. If it's done in a respectful manner I haven't seen a problem - it's the ones that are disrespectful that have problems. I am good friends with one of the people that have stood up for you yet this person has also agreed with me via pm that you tend to be rude to people at times and that is YOUR fault.

I personally would like to see these other boards you mentioned so I can see for myself exactly what you are talking about please pm me their addresses.

I really haven't followed this discussion, and don't know why I stopped in tonight, but I do have a couple of comments here.

First, we ALL have to abide by phjim's (BN's owner) rules. Jim's house, Jim's rules. We're guests, and it seems sometimes people forget that. Guests.....

Second, the moderators carry out and enforce phjim's policies. No more and no less. If they tell you they're going to delete something, they've almost certainly already checked with phjim to be sure that's what HE wants...

We are guests, just as much as if we were physically guests in phjim's home. If we're rude, or unruly, or we break phjim's rules, we can expect to be asked to leave, just as we would be invited to leave his house if we acted inappropriately.
