What about this for a solution?
Start a new fan club for ticket buying purposes. Create a new website for members to purchase their tickets. Issue a member id and let each member select their own password. Set a ticket limit of 4 tickets per member to avoid oversaturation. Build automated logic to reject any orders for the following;
- The memberid goes over the 4 ticket limit.
- The shipping address does not match the address for the memberid.
Specify a period for the members to purchase their tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Just trying to think outside the box here. Any reasons this wouldn't work?

No... more like the poorer guy takes it in the shorts... it has nothing to do with good/bad/little/big etc... as long as their are people willing to pay and can afford to, others will continue to sell tickets as high as they can.... why is this concept so agonizing for some people?ExPO9600 wrote: and the little guy takes it in the shorts.
And is anyone else laughing at the topic of this thread? Jimmy would be mad??? Yeah right. Jimmy doesn't give a rat's ass.

Had an ebay seller cancel his auction for Fenway tix, then have the nerve to email me as to whether I wanted to buy his tix at a higher fixed price!!!!! Told him to kiss my posterior.ExPO9600 wrote:There is a solution. People need to stop patronizing these clowns. Easier said than done, especially when there are 40,000 people trying to get to a show that has seating for 20,000. As long as people pony up the dough, these unscrupulous tools will continue to take all of the good seats and the little guy takes it in the shorts.
Perhaps the time is right for revolution, albeit civilly.

How do you prevent scalpers from joing the fan club?Four Play wrote:What about this for a solution?

I'm still working on that one. Some of my best ideas have come to me on the boat. I'm heading there now...LIPH wrote:How do you prevent scalpers from joing the fan club?

lets try this, everybody join a parrothead club, volunteer your time, gather points and be part of the club's group purchasing power. Then it would be a bunch of little guys. Of course we should volunteer anyway regardless

This isn't rocket science. Lots of artists have fan clubs that provide online pre-sales of tickets. That's why my wife joined the Yanni fan club. (Stop that snickering! Ya, I mean you!) They even run them through TM. I just don't know how to make the connection between us and TM to get the ball rolling.

Wouldn't Jimmy Buffett say there is a fan club with access to tickets in each region called the Parrot Head Clubs. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't each club get a certain number of tickets that are given to members who have worked hard all year spreading good will on behalf of Buffett and the club. Wouldn't he say to this never ending ticket question, join one of the clubs, volunteer some of your time for a good cause and you will get tickets for his show?

Yes, I understand the metaphor. And to some degree I understand the frustration over ticket prices and scalpers. But it all comes down to one thing... there is no means to measure who Jimmy's "real fans" are. Therefore, there is no reason to suggest that those who are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to scalpers for tickets aren't "real fans". It's simple economics... supply and demand. If you can't afford the tickets or don't want to fork over the dough to get them than you don't get to go to the show. But it's not a situation where the little guy is getting screwed.bumper wrote:little guy is a metaphor for a person, not corporation or conglomerate. You knew that though![]()

I had a couple of thoughts and I wanted to get them off my chest. Besides there's no beer on the boat so I needed to come home anyways.LIPH wrote:How do you prevent scalpers from joing the fan club?
What if you limit the number of shows a member can buy for a tour?
Or if you don't like that idea, why not only let members buy tickets to shows that are in their area? (You would have to define that using a radius from the venue, and it would be complicated but it could be done).
Or to stick with the local club method, nationalize the clubs and assign everyone a unique member id and password. That would put a control in place at a local level and allow club leaders to ban someone who's a scalper.
If we can come up with a solution we can send it in to Jimmy's people. It might not make a difference but it wouldn't hurt to try. Let me know what you think. I'm going to the boat but I'll check for replies tonight.
