Cowboyboots and Bathing Suits (Has anyone heard this album)
Has anyone heard the Jerry Jeff Walker album "Cowboy boots and Bathing Suits." I am thinking about purchasing it. I would appreciate any input.

Cowboy Boots and Bathin Suits
My first JJW album. It's reaaal good.
Meaning it harkens back to the sound of Buffett's early albums where steel guitars were more prominent than steel drums. Not that there's anything the matter with steel drums but I prefer the Gulf and Western sound to the sound of the majority of Buffett's latter day work. I like much of his newer stuff but the early albums will probably always be my favorites.pair8head wrote:Jahfin wrote:Highly recommended. I love this CD! The title track tears my heart to shreds everytime and I end up hitting replay about 5 times.......that's how good that song is. It's a live track and the audience is so moved and stunned at how JJ gets the Belizean Cayes, they're silent at the end. Wow. Boat to Build is excellent, too.

Wish I could go too! Nice to run into you here.LIPH wrote:Seeing this thread just reminded me JJW is playing at B.B. King's club here in NYC next week. I forgot all about it and it's probably sold out by now but I'll have to check just in case there are any tickets left.

From the Billboard article I just read... Buffett & Jackson do "Boats To Build" on LTC.Four Play wrote:Boats To Build alone makes it worth it for me, even though he didn't write it. Great version of a great song.

Another great song on CB&BS is Those Were They Days by Keith Sykes. Jerry Jeff and the Gonzo Compadres do such a wonderful verison of it. In fact, the year of JJW BDG in Austin when CB&BS was released it was a tropical night and Keith showed up for the bash and sang along on that one.

Keith Sykes
We were wild and young and willing, to give up anything it took
To get to where we were going, you could read us like a book
Our nights were hot, filled with a lot, of lovers and dreams and songs
And mornings mostly found us in places we did not belong
But those were the days (those were the days)
Man those were the days (those were the days)
We listened to the songs Bob Dylan wrote
We sat there stoned and amazed
We forgot to eat, we forgot to sleep
Searching for the perfect line
So here's to the good old days, baby, one more time
I remember Jimmy saying, if he had two blues and a beer
He might get some sleep tonight, give his head a chance to clear
I reminded him of an old girlfriend singing at a bar called Slim's
And I recall him doing lot's of things that night,
But sleeping wasn't one of them
But those were the days (those were the days)
Man those were the days (those were the days)
We learned all the songs the Beatles sang
We even tried Purple Haze
We forgot to eat, we forgot to sleep
Searching for the perfect rhyme
So here's to the good old days, baby, one more time
We were wild and young and willing, we are still are in some ways
Every now and then we still have one of them good old days
And it makes me proud when I think out loud
About lovers and dreams and songs
And how it always kept me going and the best ones are never gone
But those were the days (those were the days)
Man those were the days (those were the days)
We learned all the songs by Hank and Lefty
There must have been a thousand ways
We forgot to eat, we forgot to sleep
And all but the very best lines
And even a few of those from time to time
But those were the days (those were the days)
Man those were the days (those were the days)
So here's to the good old days, baby, one more time
