Query: Did Ticketmaster Withhold Jones Beach Tix?

Post by bgsherris »

Folks:

After looking at the auctions on Ebay, and reading the threads of tickets that were purchased IN line and ON line, I've come to the conclusion that there were NO orchestra seats, nor were Stadium 1 sections 11R (on the left) through 5L (on the right) put up for sale at 9AM this morning.

The first tickets that were sold this morning appear to be 13L (left) and 3R (right).

Anybody care to contradict this theory?

, I pulled a pair in section 3L that I didn't buy, since I already had gotten my tickets, but I'm not sure if that's a section you mentioned, and a friend of mine pulled 2 singles down in the orchestra pit.

Well, the tix that you didn't buy were within the sections that I know were sold online this morning...however the two orchestra singles are news to me.

85% of the Orchestra is season sales so there are very few of those for any show. Then Jimmy, Corona, etc. get there seats. That's why you don't see the good seats coming up on ticketmaster.

Funny thing is that American Express cardholders usually get a shot at orchestra sections H or G at Jones Beach...however it appears that JB did not participate in the usual AMEX promotion.

I got thru at 9 and at 9:02 they said they there were no "pairs of tickets left". I just do not get how this can be 2 minutes after the show went on sale

Brokers had tickets "available" for the last week or so for this show. Its ridiculous but its true.Until Jimmy makes advanced tickets available through the Coconut Telelgraph fanzine or through his website this is what we deal with.

If Clear Channel owns the venue, you can bet that tickets were held back for brokers. Oh, by the way, Clear Channel probably owns the ticket brokers as well.

Let me explain what happens with brokers so you don't make statements like the one above.
First off a great number of them own season ticket subscriptions so they are sure to get the best seats up front. Second, they list tickets before the show goes on sale because they know they will be able to get seats, or ones very close to where they say they are.
Nobody holds tickets except for people very high up on the ladder for VIP's etc. These are the seats that are released a day or two before the show if they are not taken.
The season ticket holders have the money in long before the "season" starts.
Jimmy signs off with CC or whomever is doing the concert and lets their people handle it. That way it's a turn key solution and he doesn't have to employ 50 people to deal with it.
I too agree that Jimmy could do a mail order system like The Dead does and all parrotheads would be better served. I just get a little fed up when people assume they know whats going on and how they think they are getting screwed. Just remember...There are only so many front row center seats.

clear channel DOES own many of the ticket brokers which has to be a borderline monopoly on top of the fact they own so many radio stations and concert venues, it kind of scares me that one organization has that much control over the media we hear and see, my friend was told that more tickets to jones beach would be released as the show got closer

If the limit was 6 tickets per person and the top price was $97 how did 2 people get $3100 worth of tickets?

Basically Ticketmaster doesn't care as long as they get theirs. Would 19 year old brats really care about the rules?
