You are right as usual, so I will be there bright and early Saturday morning for breakfast. It looks like a lot of people are staying at the same hotel, hopefully the people from the Boston area can meet up Friday or Saturday morning and have a nice big tailgate all day Saturday since we mey miss ours this year.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:but 2002 was on a Tuesday, not Saturday of Labor Day WeekendPARROT HEAD MIKE wrote:I went in 2002 it didn't fill up to early we went to beach in AM because lot wasn't going to good yet were in lot by 1:00 still plenty of room it was free then, but Labor day weekend might be different. Leave Friday I did in 02 and am this year and would recomend staying Fri-Sun it will be a lot more relaxing not to have to rush there Sat AM. Also good group of people at the hotel.mexcooker12 wrote:How early do you think the free lot fills up?

okay, after reading all these posts, I am confused...
I am leaving from Philly on Friday afternoon and staying over at the Holdiday Inn, Rockville Centre.
1. I don't have to take a Ferry to get to either the hotel or the venue do I? I've been to LI before and have never taken a Ferry, but then again, I have never been to Jones Beach before.
2. How far is my hotel from Jones Beach? The hotel rep told me that it was only 7-10 miles, is this accurate?
3. How long will it take me to go from the hotel to the venue? I was planning on getting there early anyway, so getting to the lots at 9:00 or 10:00 wouldn't be that difficult.
Thanks for your help!

No, the people talking about the ferry are coming from New England so they would be coming across LI Sound.puckhead wrote:okay, after reading all these posts, I am confused...

I live 2 towns west of Rockville Centre (maybe 5 miles) and it's a little over 20 miles from my house to the beach.2. How far is my hotel from Jones Beach? The hotel rep told me that it was only 7-10 miles, is this accurate?
Depends on the traffic. You could make it in 20-25 minutes or it could take over an hour. It's a holiday weekend and if the weather's nice there could easily be 150,000 at the beach that day.3. Re: Jones Beach
What Greg said is completely correct.gy3772 wrote:Hi gang, I have been lurking here and wanted to help with some of the questions tha have been posted. I reside In Wantagh near Jones Beach. I haven't been to the beach yet this year, but in the past the lot at the theater has been a paid lot, same as the others till I believe 6pm. Same as the others. If you have a ticket to that nights show then I believe the parking is free. I am not 100% certain but this is what I recall. Also those of you staying at the best western, they are under construction right now and have very limited parking. I assume they will be done before the summer is over but be sure because there isn't much room to tailgate there. If I was going to be around that weekend then I would invite you all to the parties that I hold, but if I hear of any I will let you know.

Concerning the lot near the Jones Beach Theatre, it is a paid lot UNLESS you have a ticket to the night's show, in which case the parking is free. They have people who check the cars on the way into the lot.
In short, the lot performs double duty as a beachgoers lot, AND a theatregoers lot...so considering it is going to a Saturday, Labor Day weekend show, I would DEFINITELY get there before 8AM...perhaps before 7AM.
2002 was an entirely different story, as the show was on a Tuesday, the weather was cool and breezy, and it was not the holiday weekend yet. The lot did not max-out until sometime after noon/1PM.
By the way, breakfast on the beach would be nice.

Will beachgoers who use the same lot as the concert tailgaters clear out by the end of the day? If i get there too late and the lot is full will people from the beach clear out so i can move my car to the other lot? If the free lot is full is there pay lots nearby? Also whats the deal with bathrooms in the lots?

Bridgeport, Ct. exit 27 off I95 south. My deli is two blocks from the frerry dock. Coffee, muffins, rum,, ice, etc. on me for those jumping on the ferry. I'll be closing and getting on the ferry between 10 and 11 am. Awesome 1 1/2 hours ride across the sound. well worth it.MA_Buffett_Fan23 wrote:Ummm, am I missing something??? There is a beach across the street, so if you get desperate for a bathroom, just be creative...mexcooker12 wrote:Will beachgoers who use the same lot as the concert tailgaters clear out by the end of the day? One more warning, I'm seeing a lot of people planning on leaving various places at 10-11am. We might not see you folks until mid-afternoon, and parking will be a b**** by then...Yes, the traffic can be that bad that weekend!
