Hey Good Lookin

I just heard Jimmy's new song, Hey Good Lookin on a country station in Boston (99.5). It looks like Jimmy is finally getting some air play.

He's actually had quite a bit of airplay in the past but I know what you mean if you're referring to his more recent work. I think the last time I heard anything new by him on the radio was around the time of Fruitcakes although a friend of mine said he heard Savannah You Well when he was visiting, well, Savannah, GA shortly after Far Side of the World was released.

There is an AM station that has a couple of Parrothead DJ's on staff here in Kansas, their motto is "no body plays more Buffett than 1400 KVOE"
I know them and they always are happy to play a request.

Has anybody heard the tune? Seems to me JB has set the tiki bar kinda low here. How low can ya go? If memories of childhood are correct this ain't "Pacin the Cage". Am I mistaken, is this song a stretch or filler?

I haven't heard the song yet but if he wanted to pick a fun tune to showcase his country roots I could think of few others that would do a finer job. Personally I'd take Hank, Jr. over Hank, Sr. anyday. Hank III ain't to bad either. At least his music is closer to the spirit of his grandfather's...

You haven't even heard the song, yet you can think of better ones?? That's like a kid saying he dosn't like brocolli without even trying it. :-? Instead of criticizing it before you hear it why don't you take a listen and then criticize it??

I have never eaten brocolli, and I can tell you for damn sure I don't like it.

ok I'll change the analogy - it's like a reviewer issuing a review of a play/book/concert without attending the play or concert or even reading the book.

The way I see it the avatar that ph4ever has is proof enuf. We shouldn't prejudge, even cartoon characters. Nevertheless even Goodman can conger up "Hey Good Lookin" and at this rate will a JB cover of "Happy Birthday" be far behind? :-)

I think you misread what I was saying, you may want to go back and read it again. I was actually saying it was a good choice for a cover song. I still prefer Hank, Sr. and Hank III over Hank, Jr. though.

Drop the "a" out of that sentence and you'll see what I was saying.

I've heard the song on the radio. IMHO, I think it would make a great hidden track. All the boys gettin' together and having a little fun.

But it was released as a single and all the country stations are picking it up. How could they not with that A list of singers?

It is clearly an attempt to appeal to country fans, get some airplay and pave the way for the next single. More power to him if that is the route Jimmy wants to take - it's his candy store. But again, it seems to go against the attitude towards fans, airplay and awards that Jimmy has expressed in the past.

Just wondering but what might that attitude be?

For some reason a lot of people seem to think this is the first time Buffett has had any airplay, that country music has never played a part in his music, etc. which I find a bit bewildering since I've never found any of that to be true.
