No, but I have a brother who's 17 years younger than me who I have some ad hoc parental control over...
To answer the next question (i'm assuming), yes, if my brother asked me (he's 12 and I'm 29) if that guy over there was doing pot, I would say yes, and if he asked me why I'd say I don't know, but if he gets caught, he'd be in a lot of trouble (because it's illegal). And no, I wouldn't rat the guy out, unless it was posing a problem (breathing, itchy eyes, or something to me or my entourage and he didn't respect my polite request for him to stop).
And what became of sweet Melissa.... ???

My son is 17 and he knows I smoke occasionally. We've been to concerts together where it's been smoked and he's been the one bringing it up. I have pretty much the same values however I have also tried to teach him discression. For example if the neighbors down the street are selling drugs it's best to just leave them alone and not call the cops. You never know - they may find out and come after you.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

MF, I understand your point of view. If the person is rude and doesn't douse the j and you are obviously hacking up a lung, that is one thing. But, I certainly hope that you would not risk giving someone a felony conviction by calling the cops if you had itchy eyes. Heck, the dude probably has a full bottle of visine in his pocket that he would let you borrow.Melli_Fera wrote:itchy eyes
There are waaaaaaaaay too many people in prison on mandatory drug sentences while the violent people get out for time served + good behavior. Besides how many home invasions or muggings occur to support a pot habit? The person is too stoned to remember where the bullets go, for crying out loud! Either that, or they're at the Krispy Kreme or Krystals (hmmm, wonder if that K has something to do with it?) with the munchies.
This is a concert environment. An environment that historically has always been different than your average Kiwanas (K again?) or Knights of Columbus or Rotary Club meetings. My mother was at a Buffett show and someone handed her a joint. She asked my brother what should she do, he responded, take a hit or pass it on. She passed it to the next person. This from a woman who quit cigarettes because of cancerous growths in her throat.
All I am saying is give leaf a chance.

That was me getting off the soapbox. You can now proceed with your regularly scheduled postings. Thank you for your time.

If you want to spend the little time of a buffett show pointing out to children what is illegal then that of course is your choice. Just don't forget to tell them all about how being drunk in public is illegal as well as about the dope smoking. That way they can learn all about the law at a Buffett show and see the many examples of people who are drunk in public as well as people getting stoned. And if your doing any drinking yourself, you may also want to bring along a personal breathalizer kit just so that you can show the children that you are under the legal limit and that you are obeying the law. I never thought of Buffett show as a time for children to learn about the law, but I am beggining to understandMelli_Fera wrote:Ok, I didn't read all 8 pages of replies (yet), but here is my 2c
Toker: You have the right to do whatever you want (smokin the happy stuff), but you have to be willing to pay the consequences (gettin thrown out, arrested, etc.) for your actions.
Non-Toker: You have the right to not be subject to illegal activity (smokin the happy stuff) and you have the right to not be subject to any kind of activity not allowed by the venue. You have the right to ask the toker to stop, and if the smoker doesn't comply, you have the right to notify security, and let above mentioned consequences happen.
I don't partake, but don't mind people around me partaking...it's the people who complain and talk talk talk, but don't do anything about it that bothers me. If my perfume made someone have an allergy attack, i wouldn't apply it AGAIN knowing that the person asked me not to...
So, in conclusion, everyone should be respectful of each other...there's plenty of room (and ganja) to go around.

Oh, and in reply to an earlier post that the legality is a B.S. Political issue, it's not really BS in the context of that part of the discussion, because if there are kids present, their parents should be teaching them to obey the law, and the parents would be totally correct in telling the kids that a toker is breaking the law...now, do mom & dad have the responsibility to turn the person in, in the eyes of the kid? That's a different discussion!

Actually having followed this thread from the start and read every post (and made some assinine comments along the way) I realized something.
Oh wait, I'm stoned, forgot
Oh wait, I remembered now
Gotta get a twinkie first
Ok, back
Anyway, the poll is kinda misleading. It currently says:
To smoke or not smoke at a JB show?
To Smoke 42% [ 58 ]
To NOT Smoke 57% [ 79 ]
Total Votes : 137
However, having read the posts, seems to me that more people either partake or are tolerant of those who choose to partake at a show (assuming those who are smoking are respectful to those who are not). So, even though there are more people who choose not to smoke at a show, the majority of people at a show do not have a problem with it...

I've had problems with uptight jerks at shows before. So here's what I do. Ask them to name five JB albums, BBBB and SYKBH do not count. If they can't, try and explain to them, politely, what a show means to you, and that they are ruining your experience.

You can't scientifically base your argument on the responses unless all 137 responded, which they didn't. They can still vote no and be 100% completely against it, and just choose not to discuss it. I'm not arguing, just making sure you don't generalize!zanth wrote:Anyway, the poll is kinda misleading. It currently says:
