I hate to post this especially in the middle of a leg of the tour, but last night during the pre show interview on Radio Margaritaville, JB hinted at something that all of us have dreaded for a long time.

JB said something to the extent of, "We'll keep playing wherever anyone wants us-for another year or two." I was eating dinner at the time getting ready to listen to the show, and when he said that, I was a little startled. I know that he is eventually going to hang it up (After all, he is 57), but I figured it to be a little longer than a year or two.

Hopefully, JB was underestimating how much longer he'll tour. There's nothing we can do about it, so there's no sense in worrying about it. But, I think this should serve as a warning to anyone who is considering skipping a show that they could go to (Are you listening, Boston parrotheads! ). Go to any show that you can because it may not be very long before we have no shows at all.

He's obviously going to retire at some point but in the grand scheme of things 57 isn't really all that old especially if you look at some of the rock acts still out there touring. That's not to say he doesn't deserve to retire when he wants to, he's certainly been at it long enough. Hopefully when the time comes everyone will be given sufficent warning and maybe it will lead to some of those scaled down shows he's hinted at in the past. I honestly don't think he'll ever be able to give up performing completely, it's so ingrained in his blood.

Well since he lied about playing anywhere anyone wants him (he ain't at my house yet, now is he ) maybe he's lying about another year or two also.....And Jah is right, I mean the Stones are still playin, McCartney is still kickin, Jb has a lot of years left and we would never let him retire.....

As long as he doesn't do 8 farewell tours, I will support him! But I think he has a decade left in him if he really wants to. But he is a real person and knows what is good for himself, so all we can do is pray and hope that BUFFETT NEVER RETIRES!!!

I'm surprised he never takes a year off....most acts won't tour every single year (unless they are someone who needs the money...which Jimmy obviously doesn't). Jimmy seems like the type of guy who would enjoy a summer once to do whatever he wants to and this hasn't been the case for quite some time.

Yeah, but the way his tour schedule is set up, I don't think it interferes too much with him. Having two young kids at home is definitely a reason to want to take it easy during the summer since it's the only time they're out of school. But, I think that only touring for a little over a week in May, a little over two weeks in June/July, and then a little over two weeks in August/September, gives him enough time off to spend as he likes.

well you I could see it as being taken in a sarcastic kind of way.. "Oh sure ya know we'll do it for another year or two..haha" meaning we will be around for a while. No worries guys

willie nelson is 72.. thats 15 more years ..i hope jimmy is ok with us making up his retirement plan

jimmy has been saying "i'll see ya again for a couple more years" for a long time.... take it as a figure of speech and nothing more....

well if Willie's surgery dosn't work out ok Willie may not be performing anymore.......

I believe he will not give up performing completely but I have noticed some warning signs. In his book, he admitted that he does not like playing large venues... that was published 6 years ago...

But if you look at what he's doing 'behind the music' you may be able to see it too. He co-owns Krispy Kream, and he has Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville establishments. To me it looks as though he is establishing a nice nest egg/ or insurance/ or whatever you want to call it so that he still has $ rolling in long after he stops touring.

I wouldn't like to be on the road year after year... hell, I have been on business trips that last two-three weeks and that's enough motel rooms, non-home cooked meals and being away from my house (let alone from my wife) for me!

Outback owns Cheeseburger, not Jimmy. The head honchos there hadn't even been to a show before Tampa 2003 (and I'm still not postive they have been). What I was told was that he held a 50% stake in the first 5 or 10, then Outback got the rest.

I know eventually he'll stop touring, and I do hit as many shows as I can, but I'm burying my head in the sand about when that will be.

Why worry about it? Apparently Jimmy's touring this year, next year and hopefully years down the road. But if not, that's something we'll have to deal with. Enjoy what we have now instead of focusing on something bad that will happen YEARS down the road. I love the now.

Well, I guess he changed his mind about the larger venues. Fenway and the rumored show at Camden Yards say otherwise. I almost buy the "historical" nature of playing Fenway, but I just hope it doesn't become a trend in the future.

At 57 I beileve he is set financial for life. I don't think his touring schedule is that hard. He spreads out his dates so that he's not on the road for any length of time and he never plays two days in a row. He only plays about 50 dates a year which if you aveage it at is about 4 shows a month.

He baciscally tours the US so he is never far from home. Most other bands tour the world. That's when travelling gets really hard.

He has become a very smart business person who has surrouded himself with a good group of lawyers who protect his interests and good business people and financial advisers who have helped him secure his future.

He has worked very hard to get where he is. We should apprecaite the dates we get and get out to as many shows as we can before it's all over.

That's the way I look at it.

Hopefully the surgery will be successful but even so he'll still be able to perform. Considering all that Willie's been through I doubt he'd let a little thing like being unable to play the guitar stand in his way.
