I have Parrothead Companion by Thomas Ryan along with The Jimmy Buffett Trivia book that he also wrote.

I have not read either completely. Questions are way too hard for me and I consider myself a real parrothead. The guy seems to know every detail about Buffett.

Yes I did I got it as a gift from my brother a fellow parrothead, a few years ago. Not to bad.

I picked it up a few years ago and I liked it OK. I thought it was decent of the author to admit right up front that he wasn't familiar with Jimmy's music much at all and was trying to "get it" by listening to all his albums in chronological order and reviewing them as objectively as possible.

95% of the book is reviews of each of Jimmy's albums, and the remainder is an account of a few days the author spent going to some concerts and hanging out with Parrotheads. It was fun to read about someone totally unaccustomed to the Parrothead lifestyle diving right into the deep end and immersing himself in all the craziness.

By the way, if you're looking to pick up other Buffett-related books I HIGHLY recommend these two:

"The Jimmy Buffett Scrapbook" by Mark Humphrey & Harris Lewine

I love this book. It's kind of a loose biography of Jimmy, with a TON of other Buffett-related stuff thrown in to flesh things out. Lots of info about his albums, his musical influences, stories & anecdotes, etc. A very fun read.

"Jimmy Dot Com: The Evolution of a Phan" by Jackson Quigley

Also very fun. The book was written & put together by a guy who wanted to show what's involved in being a Parrothead. It's basically a collection of photos of concerts, tailgates, phlockings, etc. There isn't a great deal of text, so this isn't a book you read so much as kinda flip through and enjoy the pictures.

I believe Jackson (at least initially) self-published this book, so it was a real labor of love.

I think both are available on Amazon.com

I agree with you Conched. My best friend has the book and some of the questions are hard. I felt like I was about to flunk out of school. I thought I would have known 95% of the answers but I was not even close.

Yep, read the Parrothead Companion. Good for time-line and album information.
