I think it's ridiculous for our guys to be risking their lives, living without liquor, pork or p***, and our government isn't even supplying gatorade. Has anyone actually checked to see if they have it there, just not in the requested flavor?

In answer to the question about if "its there"....the answer is yes and no. Depending the Camp, there may or may not be a PX or "store" they can get it themselves at. Regardless of IF they can get it....I know in the case of my son that he works from sun up til the wee hours of the a.m. going to a store is not a priority for him. Hell, they haven't even received their "personal baggage" yet that they shipped themselves and it's been two months. The whole reason for us sending them packages is to relieve some of the stress of not having their personal items around, worrying about having to get to the store before it closes and basically having some comforts of home.Coconuts wrote:I think it's ridiculous for our guys to be risking their lives, living without liquor, pork or p***, and our government isn't even supplying gatorade. Aren't you glad you asked??

Hey PHAW,
Do you have a list handy of what can and can't be sent? I'm a Brownies Troop Leader, and our service unit is sending cards and care packages to the troops, but they didn't provide such list of what's acceptable. I know Girl Scout Cookies aren't for some reason though.
Thanks!

Kick ass thread.
And Joann - that was a top-notch letter.
If worse comes to worse we could humiliate Gatorade into helping. I'm sure the athletes they endorse don't pay for product.
Don't we have some folks who work with the media here? I say we have a contingency plan for a media assault.

If you want to send Girl Scout cookies (specifically Samoas and Thin Mints), I'll send you my boyfriend's address in Bosnia!
Which was part of the reason I asked, I know that Matt has an assortment of junk in their PX that's as good as any 7-11, and he's in the crappy base that will be closed soon.
Also, my best friend's husband got back from Iraq in March. I know she complained a lot about the girls in her FRG jumping on things that were completely unwarranted and mostly untrue, so I wanted to make sure we actually know what we're talking about before we start throwing fits.

Coconuts - how long has your b/f been in Bosnia??? How long is his tour there? My Keet served there as well about 8 1/2 years ago.
I hear ya on the FRG....the biggest thing my DIL and the leader of this Company's FRG have to deal with are rumors
but also of the soldiers relaying info that they shouldn't

He's been there for 2 months, but he spent a month training in Germany first. His orders last until Feb. 5, but no one thinks they'll be there that long (but I can be happy if he gets to come home sooner or depressed if he doesn't- I'm planning on Feb. and the possibility of being happy!). He's at Morgan for about another month, then he'll be probably go to Eagle. He served there 2 1/2 years ago, I think- it was before we met.
It seems like one guy will hint at something he shouldn't, another one will say something else, throughout the company, then the wives put 2 and 2 and 2 and so on, and by the end, everyone knows just enough to really be full of crap but sound like they know what's going on.

A good friend of mine works for a country station in Milwaukee. I'll see if he can get something started up there with their listeners....Key Lime Lee wrote:Kick ass thread.

And we can start contacting our local stations and see what they have to say about it....
