What can I say... it's a change of latitude from Chicago!

The family truckster is set to embark on our vacation to Louisville in June... going to Six Flags, Churchill Downs, Louisville Zoo, and the Louisville Slugger Museum.

Anyone familiar with the area have any other suggestions of things to do, people to see, or places to go while we're there? Thanks! :D 8)

I've got so many relatives up there, you can visit them! :D Take a ride on the Belle of Louisville but don't stand on the roof when they start playing that calliope! OUCH my ears. One of the best bars is the Phoenix Hill Tavern....has different floors for different kinds of bands. Best restaurant is Casa Grisanti's. My aunt has her own lake, if you like to fish! Lots of Krispy Kremes up there, too! :D

Thanks citcat! I'll highlight your suggestions. Your aunt's lake sounds good to me, but hubby wouldn't go for it. I will have to scope out the KK's in proximity to our hotel though!

When are you going? Peter Mayer is playing next Saturday night.

My favorite restaurant there is the Kingfish.

Saturday, June 19th. Here's the email I got about it:

The Derby Parrot Heads of Louisville would like to invite you and your
club to take a road trip to see one of our favorites, Peter Mayer and
his gang. They will be coming once again to the Phoenix Hill Tavern, on
Saturday, June 19th. Peter, who most people will know as Jimmy’s guitar
player and songwriter, will appear with his brother, Jim (also Jimmy’s
bass player) and an assorted group of musicians. If you’ve never made
it out to a Peter Mayer concert, you really owe it to yourself to come
on out. He’s nothing short of fabulous—great musician, and a heck of a
great guy. Tickets will be $12 in advance or $15 at the door. The music
will start around 8:00. The Phoenix Hill Tavern is Louisville's best
music show place, voted the best bar in Louisville 17 years in a row!
We can also help you with group hotel rates at a near by Holiday Inn.
You can purchase your tickets in advance at Phoenix Hill, or at
"www.ticketweb.com" Let me know if you need any more information. Joe
Schiess, founder of the DPH's.

Ahh, leave him at home and come play with us, we can try to keep you out late enough that he'll be asleep so he can't kick you!

I'll probably just go back to Indy that night, it's only 2 hours and I think there's an hour time difference, so I should be home by 2 at the latest. Isn't Roger Guth the drummer for PMG?

That's what I'm hoping! We'll have our 2 daughters with us, so he can stay with them while I go out and play. We'll actually get to town in the afternoon, and we don't normally do much more than dinner on our 1st day in town. He'll think I'm nuts for wanting to go (he doesn't "get it"), but I don't foresee him squabbling about it. Why should I sit and watch tv all night when I have this opportunity?

We're staying at the east end - I printed my map and and it's 12 miles / 17 minutes.

Yes!!! I hope he's there too!!! I'm so excited - you've made my day!!!!

There is a new Hard Rock on 4th street. If you like boats and the water go down to the riverfront, worth the visit. Also if you are into nostalgia or antiques check out Joe Ley on E Market street. There is a Discovery Center right down the road from Joe Ley's if your girls are younger.

Louisville is a fun town, you will have a great time.

If your family is into baseball, the Louisville Riverbats are a AAA Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. I took my wife and keets to a game last night and we all enjoyed it. Slugger Field is a fairly new facility in the downtown area right on the Ohio River. It's a fairly inexpensive night out and good family entertainment. Check out http://www.batsbaseball.com/ if you're interested. :D
