I love some Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Hank, etc., but you can't get your fix off of country radio anymore. Wilco and Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown fill that void very nicely. Wilco's new album will be out in a little over a month. They are allowing streaming off their website of the entire album...

Click on the link to stream. My favorite so far off the yet-to-be-released album is probably "Hummingbird".
I also like Caitlin Cary's solo records. Buffett is probably in my top ten of all time favorite artists but I don't listen to him nearly as much as some of the other artists I mentioned.

I'm anxiously awaiting the new Wilco as well but I think to be realistic, I wouldn't describe what they do these days as "alt.country".

Another License to Chill song is "Trip Around the Sun" with Martina McBride. I see that Maura O'Connell wrote a song with that title on her last cd. A pretty good song sample... "Trip Around the Sun," a beautiful track co-written by Nashville songwriter (and ex-NRBQ guitarist) Al Anderson.

(I also remember one of my favorite songs of all time is Robert Earl Keen's "Night Right For Love" with Maura O'Connell.)

Lyrics for Trip Around the Sun

I'm just hanging on while this old world keeps spinning
It's good to know it's out of my control
It's one thing I've learned from all this livin
It wouldn't change a thing if I let go.
