Hey guys, I am looking at flying into the Baltimore/Washington airport for the Nissan show. The flight that I'm looking at lands at 12:30 on Saturday at BWI. If I figure it takes me an hour to rent a car, I'd be out at 1:30, and Mapquest says it is 70 miles.

The way I'm figuring it, that would put me there around 3:00 which would give me a good five hours to soak up the atmosphere before the concert. But, I was concerned about the traffic. For those that are familiar with the area, how bad is the traffic coming from BWI to Nissan? Assuming my plane lands on time, will I have enough time to get there? Thanks in advance.

I have no idea. I'd suggest pm'ing Lvskns. She's the Nissan Social Director. Or maybe LaTda - I think he's from that area as well.

The easiest way from BWI to Nissan is I95 to the Beltway to I-66. Beltway traffic generally isn't too bad on a Saturday. But it's a holiday weekend so you might want to find an alternate route. We were on the beltway on Memorial Day weekend and it took us more than 2 hours to travel 16 miles!

My suggestion would be to fly in the night before so you can get to the parking lot at noon with the rest of us.

I have not figured out my plan on getting there yet but last time I went to Nissan it took me about 90 minutes to get from BWI to Nissan. Has anybody heard if Tailgating is "allowed" or not in the parking lot.

What we have planned for this year is a diversionary plan, much like the tactics Rommel the Desert Fox. We plan on getting Monkey Boy sloppy drunk (will take about 2 beers) and then having him act like an a$$ (pretty easy) and the cops will arrest him and get him out of our hair. Thus, we will have appeased the cops by letting them have an arrest (kinda like sacrificing a virgin to the volcano) plus we get rid of him so we can have a good time. This is a win-win scheme

Don't forget that Rommel's plan only worked for a short time. You may need to sacrifice more people.

Well, when a drunken Monkey Boy tries humping the cops cuz handcuffs make him extra horny, I'm sure we'll be good for a few hours. Now, I see your point that we might need other people to sacrifice, trying to think ahead and what not, so any losers at beruit/beer pong gotta go

Is tailgating ever "allowed"? Normal rules apply, keep it in a cup and don't puke on the cops and it's all good. We've got lots of pictured of people and their drinks with security next to the "NO OPEN CONTAINERS" sign.

While your figures are generally correct (big surprise for MapQuestionable) there may be some traffic delays. You can expect to run into the usual slow traffic on the DC Beltway (I-495) as you travel the Maryland portion of the Outer Loop that goes through Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, and Bethesda. Then it'll break up for a short time as you cross into Virginia and pass through Fairfax. Your approach to I-66 and, further west, your approach to the Bristow exit, will be slow again, mostly from concert traffic. After you exit I-66 at Bristow (may also be called 'Manassas') you'll be in stop-and-go traffic until you get parked. Still I wouldn't expect much more than .5 - 1.5 hours of delay, even in a worst case scenario. That puts you there around 4PM, if you hit major delays.

Good luck and drive safely! Keep a sharp eye out, too. We have some pretty awful drivers around these parts.

Yes - last year it was also a holiday weekend. They usually allow cars to begin parking on the outer fringes of the lot around 1pm-2pm - there's only one road (2 lanes) in and out of the venue so they do their best to keep traffic from being too congested. The cops are pretty cool, just don't be stupid. Plan on it being HOT, HOT, HOT though! Nissan is very parrothead friendly.

While it should only take 90 minutes do not count on it. Two years ago it took me about 30 minutes down the street to the entrance around 3 (a Tuesday). Last year it took 5 minutes at noon. A guy I was selling a ticket to took well over an hour to go the last mile and get situated.

If you are not familiar with the DC Metro region, driving times are all relative. At any given time you can expect to be delayed for extreme amounts of time, especially on weekends and holidays. I have had many a weekend days ruined by spending time in traffic - and the beltway is a big parking lot when you least need it to be.

Basically, if you can get there earlier do it. The parking lot is exceptional, at noon they allow you in for a little extra money. It is a long excellent day and the security will leave you be - assuming you should be left alone.

Last year we had 5-8 bottles of liquor - lots of beer, jell-o shots and who knows what else and we were lacking compared to most. Unfortunately since you are flying in this could be hard, but a tarp is a big thing to have at NIssan. The last two years have been well around 95 and with the DC humidity - that means a heat index in the hundreds.

That was a lot - but I learned the hard way to be prepared...

Last year, someone (I think it was 2fla) had the BRILLIANT idea of putting paper towels or washcloths in the cooler and throwing them over people's backs after they'd been in the sun for a while- it felt GOOD and made the day much more enjoyable!

You will have plenty of time since it's on a Saturday, there will be fairly light traffic. Like it was said, there getting in and out of the parking lot is horrible...

Another way to stay cool is to take a spray bottle you get get a coupleole for a buck in Walmarts. Fill it with cold water before leaving home and stick in in the ice chest. Pull it out and spray when you need to cool down
