As someone who loved this man very dearly, I want to say that I'm really VERY impressed and overwhelmed by these messages from all of you.

Go with God and rest well, Mr. President. You ARE what this great nation is all about.
Thank you, sir. It's been an honor to be your fellow countryman.

Mr. Reagan was truly a great president and set the stardard for other optimists out there.

On a lighter note, one of my friends was drunk when he heard the news yesterday and it was a little odd having a conversation with a drunk while he rambles on about how he's going to take off work to go to Reagan's service...

I'm going to ramble for a minute, too.

A couple of things about Reagan's presidency stand out for me. First of all, I'll never forget sitting in class at the U.S. Naval Academy, knowing that Reagan's inauguration was going on just a few miles down the road, but all on the edge of our seats waiting for more important news. That morning, our classmate had been whisked away and put on a plane for Germany. His father was one of the hostages in Tehran....... We knew the fact that he'd been sent to Germany probably meant that the hostages were about to be released. And sure enough....

Ronald Reagan had an awful lot to do with restoring pride in our country. It felt good to be an American again.

Then, in March of 81...... Our coach had a new puppy.... She had named him "Reagan." We were walking back from practice when word spread across campus: "Reagan's been shot!" One girl, thinking only about our little world, asked, "Who would shoot a little puppy????" Well, not exactly.....

Ronald Reagan was supposed to be our graduation speaker, but there were credible threats against his life at the time, and the Secret Service couldn't secure the stadium well enough, so they decided it wasn't safe for him to be there.....

Just rambling, here....

I like hearing you ramble too Jen.

I'm still very sad about this and will be for a long time. My beloved childhood memories are ones that involved Mr. Reagan as our president at the time. It's the last time I think people not simply supported our president... but truly loved him. Maybe not, but it sure seems like it to me right now...

Sail on Mr President, and phin power to all those who suffer from Alzheimer's and the family and friends that love them.

He had a great sense of humor and I'll never forget his touching speech after the space shuttle Challenger.

I doubt we'll see another president like him

I joined the military because of his leadership. I proudly served under a comannder-in-cheif I could respect. When you looked at that man his presence said "President of the United States".

President Reagan had a charm and charisma that transcended political lines. He truly believed that what made America great was the American people, not the government. He believed America was great "in spite of" the government. His constant optimism and confidence in this country rubbed off on many of us and we were once again proud Americans. My heart goes out to the Reagan family and indeed to any family coping with the effects of Alzheimers on a loved one.

Thank you President Reagan for your strength, wisdom, courage, integrity, and the example you set for all of us. You will always be remembered in my house as truly one our nation's greatest leaders. :)

Sail On President Reagan, Sail On...

I was only a young boy when President Reagan was elected into office in 1980. However, I am grateful that I he was the leader in office during the period of my life where I developed my political awareness. President Reagan inherited a country that had lost its way. The Vietnam War had weakened our patriotism; Watergate had eroded our faith in our leadership; the Iranian hostages had reduced our feelings of security; and soaring inflation had compromised our lifestyle. President Reagan took it upon himself to bear the burden of the American dream, and most importantly not feel ashamed about whom we are. Even though his domestic enemies immediately launched an aggressive anti-Reagan campaign that attempted to convince the electorate that this “B-rate actor” was incompetent, and undeserving of his position, President Reagan continued forward with CLASS, INTEGRITY, And COMPASSION.
33 minutes into his presidency, President Reagan performed one of the classiest acts that I have ever heard of coming from this office. When the Iranians announced that they were releasing the American hostages, another man probably would have viewed this as an opportunity to further his own image by personally greeting the hostages on their return to “Free Soil.” However, being a man of Class, President Reagan appointed Former President and Political opponent Jimmy Carter as his official emissary to greet them. No greater act of class could ever be demonstrated.

Sail on Mr. President, and thank you for demonstrating to my generation the true meaning of Class
