Jerry Jeff also covered it and his is my fave.

And speaking of Jerry Jeff, I'd love to hear Jimmy or Jim cover "It's a good night for singing"
 and I believe that one is by Jerry Jeff's bass player, Bob Livingston. Is that one on any cd? I'd like to hear Jerry Jeff sing that one.

I love Jim Morris's cover of Maybe Mexico. That would be a good Jimmy one too.

According to Jerry Jeff's website it was written by Bob Livingston but unfortunately that album has never been issued on CD and is long out of print. I'm pretty sure it was one of the very first Jerry Jeff records I heard back in the day (on 8-track no less). I feel very lucky to have found a copy on vinyl at a local vintage record shop a few years ago.

I pulled out my vinyls and listened to "Good Night For Singing" last night. It is a great song and would be a great cover song for Jimmy. (I didn't realize how many songs on that album were never put on CD. It is almost all cover songs done in 1976. A good urn for sure.)

I also agree with the suggestion of "Barefootin." I loved Jerry Jeff's cover of that.

Another great one would be Keith Sykes's, "Those Were The Days!"

As I believe I mentioned earlier in this thread I just don't get the connection between Buffett and this song (aside from the obvious). "Esape (The Pina Colada Song)" was a piece of AM radio pop dribble, "Margaritaville," though a bit overplayed is a least a well written piece of material. Just my three pesos...

I heard a version of Jimmy & CRB from Sag Harbor.........I love the original and I loved the cover too
JB did "If I Had A Boat" at Jones Beach, I think it was in 2000.
you're probably right....I heard an "unauthorized" version.....dates/venue could have been off
I know he did a version of it at Jazzfest 2000 (according to the mp3's infotags from CoB,O).

"It's a good night for singing" is also on a JJW compilation cd entitled "Ultimate Collection".
Also on the cd are Hairy Ass Hillbillies, p***' in the wind, Tryin' to hold the wind up with a sail, his studio version of L.A. Freeway, and other gems.
I got mine at Walmart
Quite a few country artist have cds with the "Ultimate Collection" series now.

Great stuff!

Thanks for clarifying. I must of totally overlooked that album when searchng for comps with "Singin'" on it the other day. The only problem with Jerry Jeff Best Ofs is there isn't room for all of our favorites on there. The man is in dire need of a box set.
