Ladies(or men??): Bridal shower question

This may seem odd that I am asking this, but to be truthful, my friends and I are a little confused, maybe the BNers can help.

Here's the situation: My friend is getting married and I received the invitation to the bridal shower, inside was where she is registered, and then there was a card with a recipe on it. Now what do I do with the recipe? ****Note: some friends received different recipes*****
Am I supposed to make the recipe?
Is that what we are having at the shower?
Am I supposed to get a salad bowl, because the recipe is a salad?
It is a complicated recipe, made with things I have never cooked with before. I could probably manage, but I am supposed to bring it?
I have heard of a blank card in which you bring a recipe, but this I have no idea.
We will eventually call and ask, but I wasn't sure if there is an etiquette I am missing.

Any help would be great. Also I feel like I am spelling recipe wrong, and I apologize if I did, it is not a word I write all the time and it just feels wrong, or I am losing my mind.

Thanks a bunch!

Yes you are suppose to make what the recipe is and also bring a gift. its a new age, i guess you have to go with the times if you want to be hip. I myself would take a good bottle of Rum cause there is always soda or coke  to go with it. Just make it simple :P :P and have fun . who knows she might have invited the groom and guy friends it is also part of the new deal. ( more presents) Remember to go and have fun

Wow!

This is something new. I have never heard of that. Perhaps the person giving the shower wants to start the bride off with a few great meals that she can create when first married and have a few samples of them as well. That's just my guess.

It does seem like a little too much to ask, if the recipe is hard to make or asks to use unusual ingredients. When I first started reading your post, it almost sounded rude (like the hostess didn't want to do all the work that goes into the shower/nor pay for the food).

I think it's a good idea that you call anyway. If this is the latest trend out there, it certainly is different.

Good luck!

:D

I'm old fashioned, but:
A. It's tacky to include in the invitation information about where the bride is registered. It's easy enough to find out by asking the person hosting the party. Here in Richmond, EVERYBODY registers at Hecht's and Target, if no where else.

B. Assuming people will prepare food, or at least not making it clear what the purpose of the recipe cards was, is tacky.

Be graceful by going along with it. But if ever you host/hostess an event, do it correctly.

It is ABSOLUTELY tacky to include information about gifts with invitations. It is assumed you will bring a gift and guests should ASK where the couple is registered. I agree with this wholeheartedly and did not include my registry information with my invitations. Everyone knew we were registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. We ended up with more Target gift cards than anyone could ever want. It was great getting to buy neat stuff at Target, but I'm wondering why I spent 4 hours signing up for potential gifts that I'll never get to buy :-?

Agreed again. (Alison is a smart lady!!).

Be graceful by going along with it. But if ever you host/hostess an event, do it correctly.Guests should be expected only to show up and be gracious guests. I was always taught never to go to anyone's house empty handed.

I must be getting old!

It is tacky to include information on where they are registered. It is rude, at a shower, to expect the guests to bring the food, but it is really beyond rude to then tell them what they are to make and give them the recipe!!!!

Thanks for the input so far, especially the stripper and bottle of rum. We are going to call to find out what the purpose is for the card.

Here are sample recipes:

Good luck with that!!! Very bizarre, can't wait to hear the outcome of intent and expectations for the recipe cards. As a guest I wouldn't want to make them... as a bride, I wouldn't want to receive them! :o

Wow! Where I'm from we don't have a spread like that at showers!! (Well, once, but it was catered.) We only have the basics like shredded chicken and potato salad.

Here's what I would do... Make the stupid recipe - don't worry if tastes like crap, it's not like you're a chef - stuff it in a box and gift wrap it. Then pass it off as your gift!!
