I used to think that Little Black Sambo was pretty cool. Run those tigers round and round a tree. I wanted to be a little black Sambette.
Is that wrong??

I dunno - is it?
At least the Buffett-Keith duet is entertaining on the record and there are no politics involved.

I don't doubt he's a talented entertainer... he wouldn't have a career if he weren't.

Haven't had time in the past 3 months to write one. Have a few in my head but I'm busy on a couple of big projects and just haven't had the extra hour.
Want to write a guest column?

No one can.
Lee, you only need an hour to write a "Ramblings"?? I bow before greatness!

Hour is transcription time. As I'm sure you do, a lot of it gets written in my head before I ever sit down to type.
And Jen - you know I do appreciate Keith or anyone else out there enthusiastically beating the drum for the troops...

I know.
I suspect I wouldn't particularly like TK as a person. I like most of his music (though the Taliban song makes me cringe), but I suspect I wouldn't care for his attitude, particularly toward women. I sure do appreciate how he supports the troops, though!
In most cases, I prefer to be entertained by entertainers without consideration as to their political leanings. There are many, many actors and singer/songwriters who I have absolutely no interest in meeting, though I may appreciate their performances, because I suspect I wouldn't like them as people. I have had the opportunity to meet a handful of celebs, and it surprised me who among them turned out to be real a$$holes and who turned out to be *very* nice people.

Way back in my ski bum days, I lived in Sun Valley. I met many big 'stars' and many smaller 'stars' I was amazed it seemed from my limited exposure that the 'stars' who are mildly successful seem to be the most arrogant, while the bigger 'stars' were more cordial. Go figure

I thnk one of the best (and perhaps most misunderstood) songs to come out of the latest conflict is Steve Earle's "John Walker's Blues" from his Jerusalem album. My other favorite would be R.E.M.'s "Final Straw".
"John Walker's Blues"
I'm just an American boy raised on MTV
And I've seen all those kids in the soda pop ads
But none of 'em looked like me
So I started lookin' around for a light out of the dim
And the first thing I heard that made sense was the word
Of Mohammed, peace be upon him
chorus:
A shadu la ilaha illa Allah
There is no God but God
If my daddy could see me now – chains around my feet
He don't understand that sometimes a man
Has got to fight for what he believes
And I believe God is great, all praise due to him
And if I should die, I'll rise up to the sky
Just like Jesus, peace be upon him
chorus
We came to fight the Jihad and our hearts were pure and strong
As death filled the air, we all offered up prayers
And prepared for our martyrdom
But Allah had some other plan, some secret not revealed
Now they're draggin' me back with my head in a sack
To the land of the infidel
A shadu la ilaha illa Allah
A shadu la ilaha illa Allah

I can tell you the best thing about the Buffett/TK duet. The best thing is Will Kimbrough. He wrote the song "Piece of Work" and probably plays guitar on it. Wills version is great. I hope TK does it justice and doesn't ruin it.
Check out Will Kimbrough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
