I am sure that the sponsors were not very happy about that.
See - you're letting your pre-conceived bias against Tony skew your perspective...

Yes, he knocked the Tropicana container off the car. Smugly? No - it's just the course of business in NASCAR, the same way all the Pepsi guys throw the big Powerade bottles off the top of the car the second they get out of the window in victory lane.

Pepsi sponsored drivers have been throwing the Coke-owned beverages (powerade) off the car all year. so Tony (a Coke sponsored driver) knocked the Pepsi-owned Tropicana container off the car.

I swear to god it's like watching a witch hunt.
It is not a witch hunt my friend. My point is that the race was sponsored and paid for by the Pepsi-owned Tropicana so they are in a way signing his paycheck. I have seen others do it but IMO not with the same attitude. I have no problem with him removing it. The way he did it was the problem because he seemed to have an attitude about the whole thing.

I think that's your perspective ... :) From my perspective Jimmy Johnson or Gordon's pushing the giant Powerade bottles off the car was far more obnoxious.

Frankly I don't think NASCAR should let ANY of them knock stuff off personally... sponsors deserve their airtime.

I agree with that. I don't pay much attention to Jeff unless his car is going in the garage or the wall. I don't remember who it was but about 2 or 3 years ago somebody won a race and started with the normal thank you speech and said that the "pepsi,NAPA,GMC,Kool Aid........and named like 10 sponsors and then started looking at his car to make sure he did not forget all the sponsors. That cracked me up. Most of the time I don't listen to the after race interviews because instead of hearing what the driver says alot of times you have to listen to a sponsor being mentioned every other word. That is why I can't say that I really notice the other bottles being tossed. I only watched yesterday to hear Tony's side of the wreck.

I think NASCAR should do more to get a hold of this...but since 95% of the viewing audience are rednecks that drink nothin' but Busch light in the can and like that kinda thing, i don't think anything will cjhange anytime soon. :-?
Not much you can do when a guy backs out of the throttle early on a restart.... if you're trying to spin someone you don't do it by running straight into the back of them...

Was it reckless driving on Tony Stewart's part, NO. Could he been a little less agressive on the restart, Maybe
= AMEN
If people wuld just stop listening to DW's unwarranted b**** sessions about Tony they'd see this as just a racing incident...
Yes DW has a mouth that won't stop. But when Tony cut down DW a few weeks back. I say let the fur fly. :)
I vaguely remember that! took me aback a bit, I like DW BUT he has had a mouth (nicknamed JAWS) for a very long time.
I'm SOOOOO glad "boogity- blah blah blah" is gone for another 6 months........

It was him... he also had a sheet metal cigarette pack holder welded to the roll bars to hold his smokes... somewhere in the basement I have the photos to prove it. :)

AH yes, Dick Trickle was a time less classic.

BTW, I actually prefer the FOX crew to the NBC crew. I could stand DW better than Wally and Benny

Sure, once he sees it, calls it incorrectly, is corrected by Wally or the director, which Alan confirms, then excuses himself, and comments upon.....
Wally can hardly contain his annoyance half the time..
Listening to them go back and forth is hi-larious

On Fox, Mike Joy is the man, but anytime DW & Mac get jawin', it's time to put on some banjo music :o

IYO maybe in the last year he has had a senior moment or 2 but over the last several there have been many times he sees stuff way ahead of everyone else, then a lap later or so there's a wreck, motor lets loose, replay proves him right, etc I'm not talking about the piddly stuff / banter back n fourth with Wally, I suspect that is encouraged..

The best team was Joy, Punch, Jarret & Benny IMEO

ahh, bring back the days when I'd drive the camper into the infield of Talledega when there were no restrictor plates & racin was racin

Gotta agree with you on that team.

And, having once walked through the infield of Talladega after a cup race, (where a Ryder truck, two cases of Busch and as much KFC as you can stomach is considered deluxe weekend accomodations) I give you credit for surviving it.

Dr. Jerry Punch was awesome. And he actually saved Rusty Wallace's life @ Bristol one time.

That show is so funny! Being a NASCAR fan is so much better with more TV coverage during the week!

I had to bring this post back up again because I am starting to think that Mike Helton or someone at NASCAR has been reading BN. According to the story NASCAR implemented the rule about sponsorship 2 weeks ago which would put it about the time that we were discussing it here. We must have more power here that we think.
