I've seen Buffett perform on college campuses and on UNC's football field I'm not so sure what's so odd about those locales since it's pretty commonplace for band's to perform there but I do have to say the latter gig was one of the strangest bills I've ever seen: local rock band Nantucket opened followed by The Spinners and then Buffett. This was all part of Apple Chill weekend at UNC back in the late 70s.

Perhaps the Radio City Music Hall show was 7/16/81 - my first JB show.
The "oddest" feeling I ever had attending a show was 11/16/01 at Madison Square Garden - my second JB show (Yes, that is a 20 year gap.). At the time, I worked in Manhattan, but this was the first non-business trip my wife and I took into the city since 9/11. After the concert, we drove downtown past Ground Zero.

The Double Diamond in Aspen Colorado, twice. The first time I waited outside for 8 hours to get tickets. The second time, my girlfriend now wife, got us both in without tickets. In either event, it was odd because we just happened to be out there when he was. It wasn't planned or anything.

Not too odd but unusual. On board sailing vessel "Antares" in St Thomas, 107' schooner a couple nights before the Pina Colada Regatta. Back around 1978, origination of my name Crazy Navy Flyer given to me by JB and skipper Dave Rossi.

At a small high school football field on Hilton Head, S.C. about 1989, it was after a big thunderstorm and traffic jam, and Little Feat openned up.

Wickham Field in Key West. A 50 piece steel drum band opened and you couldn't hear what any one person was playing. I think the field is a high school football field and we were sitting on metal bleachers. Local KW restaurants and Dominoe's were selling food. It was like he was playing his backyard.

Although I didn't see it, I remember that tour. I would of loved to of seen that one even though I'm more of a Lowell George-era Feat fan.

You are correct sir, including the pinching the butt part

I've only seen him in regular venues, but I've seen Live By The Bay so many times I think I was there sometimes. That would be the ultimate for me. Another odd/cool place would be inside an inactive volcano like Diamond Head.

Hey Y-NO-9-0" - I was at that show too. Quite kool. It was a fundraiser for "Save the Reefs" and "Salt Ponds". What a great show. Jimmy came out with the Steel Drum Band, The Desperados from Trinidad and played "The King of Somewhere Hot". I decided to leave my camera in the car thinking they would search me, never even looked twice as we walked in! That really was an ODD place for a show but one of my favorites.

I think that is the MOST laid back I have ever seen him play. I remember him messing up a song and saying "f*** it, let's start over". Awesome is all I can say. Me and a friend drove down the night before and slept on the beach (until the cops chased us away at 6 AM). Very vagabond weekend and the show capped it off. I will never forget that one (or the 39 others).
