I am going to buy it so I can read the liner notes (if there are any) and to see how many songs are actually written by JB. Then, if I do not like it, which seems to be the direction I am headed, I'll park it right under BHOTM and never listen to it.

When listening, I can say that it's disappointing to say the least... I was looking for a more original approach from my good PHriend named Jim.

What really gets my goat (sorry Zanth :D ) is that anyone who criticizes Bubba's music is completely written off and discounted.

New directions are good, in our lives and in being an artist but constructive criticism will bring good change at the mixing board... that's for sure.

Anyway... to quote myself from the other thread:

No, you don't have to agree with any of this, but I believe the question was "Am I the only one who is unimpressed with LTC?", and my response is "no".
Ditto.

What a wierd album...half is country duets, thrown in with a beer-ad jingle and a Dead cover.

Personally I think it's impossible to provide ANY kind of a knowledgeable opinion until you hear the whole record.... love it or hate it, but make those determinations based on the actual record, not 30 second clips and your imagination.

It comes across much better in full-length.

oh yea you are definately right there - no argument from me!! It's just so many of the naysayers here either don't practice constructive critizism or they talk to you like you are an idiot.

Present company excluded of course!!! You Lee are always polite and very informative and I would like to thank you for that.

Funny how you say you don't like country, but if you remember correctly, that is exactly how Jimmy started out. Yes, his style evolved, but I think he is starting to get old enough where he is learning to cherish his roots. I think this album may be one of his best in years.

Sorry... wasn't meant so much as a response to you as much as an addition to your thought.

:)

Look - I've listened through it a few times and... it's different. But for better or worse, it's not what anyone thinks. There's some really strong stuff on here and some stuff that makes me cringe (because I'm no fan of country) but none of it bothers me half as much as, say, "Math Sucks".

And the duets aren't nearly as cliched as I expected... most of them sound great, even Toby Keith, who I'm no fan of either.

It's not a return to his roots, per se... it sounds NOTHING like his early records. It's really like someone took FSOTW and turned up Doyle.

Will it rank as my favorite Buffett record? Probably not. Are there still a few certain songs whose lyrics will end up in sig lines? Absolutely.

Borrow someone's CD when it comes out if you want before you buy it... but at least give it a chance.

good grief, they could have at least put Lee Toten on the damn thing.. :)

On another note. I liked most of the snip-its I heard from that the License to Chill website. I had planned to buy it and still will! I like anything Jimmy does except charge me $100 per ticket and use ticketbastard to do it.. :D
