Borrow someone's CD when it comes out if you want before you buy it... but at least give it a chance.
That sounds like very solid advice. I think that's what I'm going to do. Usually I just sprint out and get Jimmy's stuff. I'm not sure why I'm so leary of this new album? Maybe I'm reading too many opinions.
"In the morning when you rise, aren't you glad to be alive?"
Yea Buffett started out country, but as "top 40 pop country"? This sounds more like a bandwagon album. I only need 5 songs on this CD for my traveling mixes.
I'll probally buy the cd, I know it's not going to be under my "favorite cds", but I'll still buy it, listen to it, and thats that. I think that the album would be a whole lot better if JB just sung the songs by himself and with the reefers, but thats just my 2 cents worth..but I'll probally still find that one song on there that makes me keep playing it

I Wanna go back down and get high by the sea there...
In all fairness, as country influenced as Buffett's early albums are (I'm referring here to White Sportcoat and onwards not Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee which I think are best described as "folky" at best even though there's definitely a hint of country and bluegrass on them), there is also a very predominant Caribbean influence at work there as well so I've always thought of his earlier sound as a mixture of styles, not just one that rose to the top.
Me too, but I am not going over the $13.00 range. I can use one of those top 40 country songs in a mix when I segue from a dated song (think Big Rig) to this CD. This way in 6 years they both will be dated.

It will be 9.95 at Best Buy the first week just like every other new release is.

I really don't understand what you are talking about. What is it you are trying to win me over for?? By telling me to keep an open mind are you implying that I am narrow minded?? If that's the case you really truly don't know me at all. Please elaborate.......
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I'm curious how it will all play out with RCA promoting it, country radio stations playing it, etc. Even though it appears traditional "parrot heads" may not be overly receptive to it, especially right away, will enough of the unfamiliar "newbies" to Jimmy's music rush out and get it for the duets, breaking his sales records and the like? Oh, the irony!!!
US99 is playing HGL heavily. It admittedly gags me listening to their comments about Jimmy and his history. I don't call myself an expert, but I know enough to know they have no idea what they're talking about, and I feel compelled to call each and every "J" to set them straight. I feel they're misinforming the public!

NEWSFLASH!!
This just in!
Jimmy is country, folk, rock, calypso, reggae, etc.
Some might want to read up on Jimmy's history and musical roots.
Or better yet, listen to his cds.
Most of Jimmy's albums have a country sound somewhere in them from "A1A" to "Havana Daydreamin" to "CILCIA" to"Riddles in the Sand" on through to "Fruitcakes",
"Far Side of the World" and up to now.
Whether it's rock, folk, country, tropical etc,
The cool thing about Jimmy is that he's all of that.
And just because an artist is considered "new country" does not automatically mean they "s***".
"Riddles in the Sand" is one of my favorite cds so needless to say I'm looking forward to this one.
gulf n' western is back!! that's if it ever left

I'm buying it because:
1. I buy JB albums to hear JB, in any way, shape, or form he throws my way.
2. I like country, and eagerly anticipate hearing just how country it is.
3. I blindly buy everything anyone produces, just because I'm a phan.
You tell them JoAnn... By the way, number three describes me exactly.

This is my exact thoughts...only posted before me. It is the same way with a few songs off of FSOTW, some of it just doesn't agree with me. We shall alll soon find out though!
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz & i'm fine
In reality I don't care what his roots are, I go release by release. And no, just because it is country it does not s***, but the current top 40 "twang" is most likely a fad and eventually the cycle of all music repeats itself. If you watch CMT it's the same artist in the music videos and the same program format as VH1, but with hats and a drawl. I would love to see a Jerry Jeff Walker concert on CMT.

I agree with them both. I will wait until the CD is released.
BTW, what is up with the Douglas Adams underground. I LOVE IT. I can't believe all the people on here who know of the triligy + 1
OMFG, while looking up this pic, I found out he died in 2001

I so love the melody to that song (I think it's the pan), but the first time I heard it I was just jamming to the intro and then "What the...?!!!" once the words started.
But I'm going to wait to hear it before I judge, although I don't like the title track and I've always hated the song Hey Good Lookin'.
