Maybe I'm missing something. You liked 7 out of the 16 tracks and are still disappointed? I know a lot of Grumpy Old Parrot Heads who couldn't find 7 tracks that they liked in the last 3 Buffett albums combined (not counting Meet Me in Margaritaville)!

I guess I am a perfectionist !!!!!
yea, just don't let that heat and humidity get to you and you think Jimmy Dreams remake appears on LTC

aight, well i have read through what a lot of you have to say, and as a country fan, i really like the cd, as a Buffett fan i love the cd, and as a music fan, I REALLY REALLY LOVE THE CD. im sure alot of you guys have more experience with these cds than i dobut this has been the first big release that i have been around for. I've been hooked since i was 6, and am 20 now, and just recently decided that with going to college i should start caring about the internet. so instead of just having my dad pick the cd up for me when we heard it was out like usual, i went at midnight to walmart and got the cd with my best friend, a newly converted parrot head. I have a lot of Bubba's cds, getting close to all of them to be exact, and there is no doubt in my mind this one is a little different, a good friend of mine who is not a big Buffett fan, but listens to it b/c i do, said it sounded a little sad for most of the album, and i have to agree, but the point she brings up is actually a bright point for me, some of my favorite songs are slower songs, come monday and coast of marseilles. I think certain people out there just aren't giving it a chance, saying you won't buy the cd is obviously your decision, but i think it's the wrong one, i listened to the clips, and was nervous, i didn't know if i would like the cd, and with my first listen i found a few songs i really like, and a few i probably won't throw on the repeat button immediatley for. but you have to give it a chance, there are a lot of good influences in here, and the reason most of us really love JB is b/c he is different, outside the norms, and this is right up his alley, doing a big duet album is something new for him, and for us, the artists he teams up with are power houses in the country world, and bring a new touch to the cd, maybe not a great sound for every listener, but i think if you gave the cd a shot (those of you who refuse to buy it) you will find a few songs you like, and in the end i think thats worth it, for me, it's a great reading or relaxing cd, to go along with all the country everyone is complaining about, there is some great blues influences in there, i threw it on the other day and just jammed on my patio with a good book. I don't think this is the best buffett cd ever, but it certainly holds its own, and is really a welcome change in my eyes, i love seeing JB switch things up on us, doing what he wants to do.. which is what it has been about since the start. so he teamed up with some great country icons, and made another cd on his terms with his own flair to another somewhat unspecified genre, and it's sinkin in just fine with me....

I have listened to the LTC album several times and I like it. It is a little different but there are several cuts I really like....Trip around the sun and a piece of work are my 2 favorites so far. But everyone certainly has their right to their opinion. I hope we get the opportunity to state our opinions on many more new Buffett albums in the future.
Thanks Jimmy-

I was on the fence about buying it too. Glad I did eventhough it is not my favorite. It comes with a cool poster!

To keep it simple. I'm not a country fan at all, but that's mostly due to my lack of exposure to it. I've been listening to more and more thanks to my wonderful girlfriend and now that I've got my hands on LTC, I may be a full convert.

I don't listen to any album and expect to love every song...but when I listen to the albums I own, I anticipate the songs I love and enjoy the rest as I respect the musicianship, the hard work and the creativity it takes to assemble the whole collection of songs.

I love Scarlett Begonias, Boats to Build, LTC, Piece of Work, and Coast of Carolina.

I respect the man for doing something I can't do better, and I continue to be entertained every time I listen.

Okay, first off -- I am NOT a fan of country at all.

With that said, I ran (not walked) to best buy to get this CD on Tuesday. I have listened to it for hours and hours since. I absolutely love this CD!! I cannot remember being this excited about one of his CD releases since Berometer Soup! There is only 1 track I don't care for... Conky Tonkin. Other than that, I love this release! There are so many good songs on it that I cannot even pick a favorite.

Side note: Piece of Work and Simply Complicated totally crack me up. Love the lyrics!

Great CD. Totally worth buying! Two thumbs WAY up!
It's a jungle out there kiddies... Have a very fruitful day.

Boats and Coast are two bigtime great songs. I like so far, 6 or 7 which makes it ok, but it could have been a lot better in some ways. JB was working with some great writers in Toby, Clint, and Alan can you imagine what they could have written for a Buffett CD, original type work. It may have been really special.

I did run out and buy it. Listened to it the first time with a totally open mind; actually a biased mind since I really liked LTC. Very disappointed after listening the first time. So I listened a second time but found myself even more disappointed. Was going to trash it but after reading the posts here I'll give it another try. It did have 3 or 4 cuts that were okay for me. I understand it has great appeal to many others, I just don't get into it. I hope JB has all this duet, quartet, whatever-et out of his system and will quit worrying about getting another CMT award. After all it was country music radio that banned his airtime that really got him started. He has written some great stuff over the years including some with a country feel. But the key word here is written. That explains the lack of song credits on the CD. He virtually invented a distinct genre that I've come to appreciate very much and I urgently hope he returns to it soon. But if not, it's been a lovely cruise.

From Jimmy's first album through to his most recent, there's been a trend away from original material. He's still good for a few tracks each time (including some great ones, like Far Side of the World) but he's not so much a great songwriter these days as he is a great song selector. And, to me, that's okay -- a lot of his greatest songs have been written by (or co-written with) someone else. I think he did a great job rounding up material for LTC.

I've listened to LTC from start to finish a dozen times now and it's a great album. A nice change of pace but not too much of a departure.

The first time I listen to this cd was while cruisin' A1A topless and doorless all day beneath the Florida sunshine which I thought would taint my judgement.
Ever since I've listened to it in massive quantities and it's still great.
It's way better than I expected and personally I could care less if someone writes the song or not.
JB picks the song because he can relate to it or just plain likes it.
If I like it, I like it and if it turns out to be a top 40 song or commercially successful it does not automatically make it a bad song either.
Jimmy has so much goin on these days with his hands in everything, it makes me wonder if he has the time to write a whole album in a year.

If it were any album by any other artist would it be a great cd depite a few clunker tracks?
An example is Warren Zevon's last cd "The Wind", A great cd depite a few so so songs.
Just because it's Jimmy does every single song have to be AWESOME?

I've always had my own rating system where if 4 songs on a cd are good then it's worth the buy.
The four songs that do it for me on this one are
Scarlet Begonias
Coastal Confessions
License To Chill
Boats To Build
Window on the World
Back To the Islands
Piece Of Work
Sea Of Heartbreak
Trip Around The Sun
Simply Complicated
Anytime Anything Anywhere
Conchy Tonkin' (what's not to like about a song about the Keys)
Hey Good Lookin' (yeah I like it, sue me)

Whoa, that's more than four
In other words go get it!!!!!

Well, I hate to flog the dead horse some more, but I'm with CajunPH and Lil' Bump. The BF and I bought it the day it came out, and we were both underwhelmed. His optimistic statement: "I'm sure it'll grow on us." IMHO, the only stellar song on the CD is Scarlet Begonias - the rest range from abysmal (Hey Good Lookin' - YUCK!) to good (i.e. Boats to Build). Frankly, I expect quality stuff from Jimmy - and I got mostly mediocre stuff. I think that this album was all about kissing up to country radio and the CMA voters. I hope that now he's gotten that out of his system, the next record will be better. BTW, the BF and I are both huge Buffett phans - between us we have everything the man has ever put out, so I do not say these things lightly. I mulled my thoughts over for quite a few days before posting them here.

On another topic, I'm astonished that Robert G. had a credit on the album - I heard his pan playing on ONE track (can't remember which one off the top of my head). This album should be subtiled the Doyle Grisham album, because his pedal steel guitar was on almost every track. The Caribbean influence was almost nonexistant on this album, and I was very disappointed.

JMHO....

Robert G plays the pans on four tracks as far as
I can tell:
Sea of Heartbreak (Who would have thought George Strait would sing over pans, AWESOME)
Back to the Island (superb)
Anything Anytime Anywhere (pans are beautiful on this one)
Boats to Build (also a nice addition)

I agree that Scarlet Begonias is great, especially the conga breakdown
