old game show locale in the turks and caicos islands

back in '99 we went to the turks and caicos. i found out about a locale on the island (providenciales)where they used to film a game show ( for france i think). it is way out on the deserted part of the island and you must use a 4x4 to get there. we almost didn't make it. that is a whole other story!!
anyway, it was the coolest (ok, i'm dating myself here) location. it had all kinds of tiki huts on the beach. a grouping of large tiki huts around an open deck was where this game show took place. the whole thing overhangs the beachfront. i'd scan in a pic but i'm not quite sure how to do this for the message. ya really won't believe it unless one saw it in person.
the question i have is...has anyone been out there since my visit in 9/99? does it still exsist? i'm curious.

It's still there. We went to Provo last year and started out to go to the game show site but got waylaid at a local bar. Oh well, we were on vacation!!
From what I understand, the tiki huts are still there but there is a lot of litter. Because it's so remote the local kids use it as a party site...
When the plane took off for the trip home, you could see the huts from the air. I'm not sure what condition they are in though.

The huts are still there. McGee is correct about the sad state of repair. There is a lot of litter and graffiti and empty beverage containers. But still cool. The sand on the beach is unbelievable. It is hard to walk on brcause it is so soft. Like walking on sugar. Can't say anything about the drive, we swam to the beach. There is a dive site close by where one of the stunts was done. It is a steel cage dome in about 35ft of water. The contestants on the game show "Thunder Dome" swam down to it and caught balls launched at them. One color of balls would get you a prize. Another color would get you a breath of air from one of 4 "mermaids" in the dome. Bad part was that only 3 of the four actually had air. Needless to say after killing a few contestants the show was cancelled. I have heard you can still catch reruns of the show in T&C. I was there on boats so we didn't get to watch them. Maybe next time. I did get to partake in some of the local brew, Turks Head I think. Pretty good beer or was there a lot of it? Maybe both!

It is Turks Head! They have light and dark. The light is the reason I never made it to the game show site!
I tried to find it when I got home and even tried to have them ship me some but no luck. Guess I'll just have to go back.

that is so cool that it is still there. there was hardly any trash there back in '98. we joined previous visitors and carved our names in one of the support beams. the waves were HUGE the day we were there. a hurricane had passed by the islands a few days prior. the undertow was extremely dangerous, but three out of the four were foolish enough to go in. i'm a small person and couldn't stand a chance against it. i'm not sure how to scan in a picture to this post otherwise i would to show you some great waves against the tiki site.
thanks for the info on the game show. we didn't know exactly what one did there. we hope to get back there some day after we visit grand caymen.

I know exactly what you mean about the light! I pretty much missed a Friday afternoon because of it. But I sobered up just in time for a night of serious rum drinking back on the Sea Dancer!
