I picked up George Strait live from the Astrodome "For the last time." Anyway, he leads off with Stars on the Water. Is that a Buffet song he covered or a Straight song Jimmy covered.
Anyways, this is simply a great DVD.
Somebody set me Strait on this issue.

Stars on the Water was written by Rodney Crowell and released on One Particular Harbour.

Neither, Rodney Crowell actually wrote and released the song in 1981 on his self-titled album.
Both Buffett and Strait covered his song.

I'll bet it is a super DVD. I saw GS at the Astromdome about 1996 or 97 and there were 63000 folks there. I was in awe....then I saw the show this year and Texas Stadium....I am still saying WOW!
George Strait is about as straight-forward as you can get and I can't believe how much I love his shows.

On the other hand...you also need to treat yourself to a Rodney Crowell show...you just may catch Will Kimbrough with him. Jimmy just covered Will's "Piece of Work" on License to Chill.
Will K will be at Lulu's on July 17

Rodney Crowell played "Stars on the Water" two weeks ago at the Teluride Bluegrass Festival.

That is probably my favorite cover Jimmy has recorded.....although I love his rendition of any Steve Goodman tune.......If you can ever catch Austin City Limits from the early 80's....JB & the CR do a great performance of it

Rodney Crowell is a singer/songwriter like Buffett who's songs are frequently of an autobiographical nature. His Houston Kid CD is about growing up on the wrong side of the tracks in Houston. It is considered to be Crowell's masterpiece. His latest work is Fate's Right Hand. I have heard a few of the songs from the CD on RM. If you like Buffett, give Rodney a try.
